December Newsletter 24-25
December 2024
A Note From Dr. Hooton
Duello Family,
It is hard to believe that we are heading into the month of December and the end of the first semester! December is a busy month filled with lots of activities. We are looking forward to our upcoming school events and winter parties. We can’t wait to see what PTA has planned for Pancakes with Santa! Thank you in advance to our wonderful PTA and all the volunteers for providing a night of fun for our families!
The staff and I would like to wish you all a month filled with special times celebrating the holidays with the ones you love most!
Some reminders:
1) As we head into the second half of the school year, we would love to see your children independently exit and enter the car at arrival and dismissal. The line seems to be taking a bit longer this year at dismissal and we've noticed an extra amount of parents getting out of their vehicles. If your child needs help exiting the vehicle in the morning, please use your flashers and someone will come to your car to assist. We appreciate your help in keeping our arrival and dismissal running safely and smoothly.
2) If you have a transportation change for your child(ren), please communicate with our main office so we are aware of the change.
3) Please make sure your child(ren) brings their coats, hats and gloves every day, because we still go outside for recess during the winter months. If your child(ren) are in need of winter clothing, please do not hesitate to contact our school counselors.
4) Our second quarter will be coming to an end on December 20 with report cards being published to the portal on January 10 at 4:00pm.
5) Please remember there is no school for students from December 23 - January 3. We return to school on January 6, which is also a Late Start. I hope everyone enjoys the winter break with friends and family!
With Mustang Pride,
Dr. Hooton

Holiday Service Project
Dear Families, During this holiday season, Duello will again be partnering with Morning Star Church (MSC) and the New Hope Resource Center to provide Christmas Shoppe to families in need of assistance. To support the Christmas Shoppe, we are asking for donations of specific gift items in a variety of price points or gift cards. We are also accepting cash donations to support our families. This year for the Christmas Shoppe gift drive, MSC has created gift registries at Amazon and Wal-Mart. Read below to find the details of how to access the registries. Unwrapped gifts should be shipped directly to Morning Star or brought to school by Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
The information below provides the links to access the gift registries directly.

Duello School Store
Our Spirit Leaders and Service Club students have been working hard on creating and crafting new products as well as picking new merchandise to add to our store inventory! Last month they made the cutest Duello Shaker bookmarks! The store will be open before school from 8:05-8:30am, during the weeks listed below. Our students are also starting to come up with ideas on how to utilize the funds made at the store. We will be having students vote on Murals for our school walls as well as some ways to enhance our outdoor classroom space! We love that our students are actively involved in making our school an even better place to be.

Inclement Weather Procedures
As we approach the colder months, we want to re-share the District communication that has information regarding the WSD's inclement weather procedures for the 2024-25 school year. This year, snow days one and two will be traditional snow days. After our second snow day this year, we will switch to AMI (alternative methods of instruction) for snow days three through seven. Read more on what to expect this winter here. View AMI assignments here.
Wentzville Wow Factor Award
Has your child's teacher made a significant impact on their education and life? Do you want to recognize a staff member who goes above and beyond? The WSD rolled out a new way to honor our staff, and it only takes a few minutes to do. Nominate a teacher or employee for a Wentzville Wow Factor Award anytime throughout the school year to let them know they are making a difference! Nominate a Staff Member.
Late Start Information
The WSD will once again be providing supervision for K-5 students who need to be dropped off at the regular start time on scheduled Late Start Days in the 2024-25 school year. This is separate from our Before Care Program through Chautauqua, so if you are registered for Chautauqua, please DO NOT register for Late Start Supervision. Late start day supervision will be available beginning at 8:05 a.m. on Late Start days (School start time 10:20 a.m.). Please visit our Late Start page on our District website for more information.

Arrival and Dismissal
This is an important reminder of the drop-off and pick-up procedures that we will enforce for the safety and efficiency of the students and parents at Duello. Staff supervision and student drop-off begin at 8:05 a.m. If you arrive early, please wait with your child(ren) until 8:05 a.m. to assure that they are supervised. Parents should not drop students off in the parking lot in order to avoid the drop-off line.
Walkers- Walkers are defined as students who walk or ride their bike home. These students will be dismissed and will either travel home alone or meet their parent/guardian. The parking lot is not a designated crosswalk and is extremely dangerous for students to walk through unattended. Please do not bypass the carline for convenience and put your child and others in danger.
Car Riders- Car Riders are defined as students who will have parents/guardians who will utilize our car rider line to drive through and pick their child up. This is the most efficient way if a parent is coming to pick their child up. The line might look long but it moves quickly.
A smooth and efficient procedure takes all of us working together. I appreciate and expect all parents to follow the outlined procedures.
General Information
Car Riders
- Make sure your car rider pick up signs are visible on your dash. If you do not have your sign when you arrive then you will need to show proper identification.
Walkers
If your child is a walker, please communicate with the office and teacher so we know which students to release as a walker. If a child is not on our list as being a walker, we will need to call home to verify or send them on the bus or as a car rider. This is solely for safety purposes. We don’t want to release a child as a walker if we have not received permission from a parent. Also, we asked that you don’t drive a car up to school and then have your child dismissed as a walker. This creates an unsafe situation for students and adults. The parking lot is not a designated crosswalk and is extremely dangerous for students to walk through unattended. Please do not bypass the carline for convenience and put your child and others in danger. We truly appreciate your help with keeping everyone safe!
Morning/Afternoon Schedule
- Doors open at 8:05 am
- Breakfast from 8:05 am-8:20 am
- Dismissal begins at 3:15 pm
