Husky Happenings
🎃October 4th, 2024
Message from Mrs. Sheppard
Happy Friday!
We have been so lucky with our weather lately! I hope it continues because we love being able to take our students outside to recess. Recess has been a little rough lately at Graham. Our new equipment is fun for our students but we have had to talk to them several times about playing safely on the playground. Please remind them as well that it is important to take care of our new equipment so that we can have it for a long time. We have already had to fix our "tire swing."
Our PTA is starting to plan for our MONSTER MAYHEM that will be held on October 24th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Everyone is invited. Notes went home this week about purchasing a bracelet for this event beforehand for $5. If you plan to order bracelets beforehand, please be sure to send the form back with your money in an envelope or baggie labled appropriately. The PTA is also looking for CARS to participate in TRUNK OR TREAT. I sign up genius will be going out soon. We hope you will be able to join us!
This week in the Positivity Project we will be discusing the character strength of Teamwork. Teamwork. Please read the letter and talk about this trait with your family during the week to reinforce what we are talking about in school. Teamwork means you work well as a member of a group or a team. You are loyal, reliable, and dedicated to helping your team acheive it's goals.
Please feel free to email me with questions you might have and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Have a wonderful weekend!

Early Student Pick-Up
We respect that some appointments or obligations will require you to pick-up your child(ren) early from school. If you have an appointment and you must pick up your child early, please expect delays and please come before 3:40 pm. In the spirit of safety, our dismissal process involves all staff and it is very difficult to have staff get a student early from their classroom and bring them to the office between 3:40 and 4:00pm. Please do not pick-up children between 3:40 and 4:00 pm. This greatly affects our safe and efficient dismissal process. We do not have extra staff to easily get students from class prior to our 4:00 dismissal. Thank you for your continued support.
There are several families that are also coming EVERY day, to pick up their student early from school. This is starting to cause issues with students missing teaching and learning. It is very disruptive to the teachers and other students in the classroom. If you are a school of choice family, leaving early every day could affect your status and your child may have to return to their neighborhood school.
Morning Line Up
Please encourage your child to wait in their lines outside during morning line up. This is not a time for "recess type" play. We talk about this in our PBIS expectations during the week that they should be in their lines, waiting to come in to the building. I have had to talk to several students about running around, throwing footballs, playing with sticks, etc. I do not want anyone to get hurt before school starts! Thank you for your help and working with us to have students follow these expectations.
Cold and Flu season will be upon us soon! Please know, if you receive a call from Mrs. Harper saying your child is sick and needs to be picked up, you must come and pick up your student. We do not have a room to keep sick students and we cannot send them back to class.
Here are some guidelines to consider:
- Fever: If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or highter, they should stay home until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without medication.
- Vomiting or DIarrhea: Chidlren should remain at home for at least 24 hours after the last episode.
- Cough or Cold symptoms: If your child has a persistent cough, sever sore throat, or difficulty breathing, it's best to keep them home.
- Rash: If your child has an unexplained rash, please consult a healthcare provider before sending them back to school.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school environment healthy. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
I thought I would add this section in here this year to keep you informed about different things going on in the district, community and about our school. Please look through it each week so that you are aware of new things going on or things that we offer here at Graham and in the District.
Social Media
We have a Facebook Page and an Instagram page! Please join these pages by "liking" them.
We post pictures and news about school on each of these social media sites. This is a great way for you to keep informed about our school!!!
Free breakfast and lunch EVERY DAY!!!
Students in WWCSD receive FREE breakfast and lunch EVERY day at Graham. There are several students that bring a lunch to school and then also want to get in line and get another lunch. While they are entitled to do that, they end up having so much food that they are overwhelmed and cannot finish. If students are bringing a lunch to school and you do NOT want them getting another lunch, please talk to them about this so we are not throwing out full lunches.
Room Parent: The PTA is looking to have a parent volunteer to be the "Room Parent" for each classroom this year. This parent would help organize volunteers for classroom popcorn days, the Spring Carnival basket theme, getting Parent chaperones for Field trips and much more. If you are interersted in doing this for your child's classroom, please let Mrs. Sheppard know who you are and what classroom you would assisting. Your support is invaluable to use and we look forward to having parents join our community of dedicated volunteers! Please let me know if you are interested! I have already had some parents contact me so thank you for that!
Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), offering free services to all students and families within our district. Among the services provided are basic needs assistance, access to over 700 local resources, and a Laundry Assistance Program. Additionally, the FRC offers essential items, such as emergency toiletries, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and scarves, to those in need. School supplies and backpacks are also available year-round for any district student.
Please contact our Family Resource Center at 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. A Digital Request for Services Form is also available. If you have additional questions about their services, please contact the Family Resource Center directly.
We have several openings in our district!
If you are interested in working in our Lunchroom every day, we have some openings! You would need to be able to work each day from 11:40-1:15. This would be a paid position at minimum wage. Please let me know if you are interested in working in the lunchroom and we can work together to get the hiring process started.
We are also hiring Para-Professionals. There are SEVERAL openings throughout the district. This position starts around $18 per/hour and includes benefits.
We also have bus driver positions available in our district! Click on this link for more information on becoming a bus driver. We train you for FREE and this is a great way to be in sync with your child's schedule.
If you are not able to commit to a full time job, we also have a system called EDUSTAFF which is our subbing system. You could go through the orientation for that program and be a substitute secretary, para-pro and even a teacher! (Subsitute teachers need 60 hours of college credits)
IMPORTANT!
