Communication Snapshot: Week of March 24th

The City employs over 30 part-time crossing guards who help facilitate school student crossings at 24 designated intersections citywide, twice a day, five days, rain or shine! Join us in celebrating and sharing gratitude for the City’s Crossing Guards all year through and especially during Crossing Guard Appreciation Week!

The unique event helps inspire students to stay involved in music throughout their academic careers by introducing them to peers at their future middle and high schools and celebrates their commitment to participating in music programs.
The Festival kicks off on April 14th with the final performance taking place on May 21st. There will be a performance date for each school cluster (Westlake, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park) in Choir, Strings and Band. Tickets for performance dates may be purchased online via this link.
This annual festival is made possible thanks to an incredible community partnership between the Conejo Schools Foundation, Conejo Recreation and Parks District, the City of Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley Unified School District.
Families of current and future CVUSD students, students and the broader community are invited to the Inaugural CVUSD Career Education (CTE) Student Showcase on Thursday, April 3rd from 5pm to 7pm at California Lutheran University's Lundring Events Center to learn more about the CTE Career Pathways available in the CVUSD!
More than 200 students and staff members from CVUSD middle and high schools will have booths set-up that demonstrate the skills they have developed in the Career Pathways Program and provide their peers and future students/families the opportunity to learn more about the unique academic offerings available across the District, including coursework in:

CVUSD Parents/Guardians are invited to an eye-opening presentation on vaping and nicotine use that will take place on Wednesday, April 9th from 6pm to 7pm at Century Academy's MPR (33 Greta Street, Thousand Oaks).
Vaping has become increasingly popular, especially among youth—but do you know what’s inside those vape pens and e-cigarettes? This engaging presentation will break down the facts about vaping, its growing impact on young people, and the potential health risks associated with nicotine use. Learn what vaping is, how it affects youth, and the health risks involved.
Congratulations to Jason Klinger who was approved at the Wednesday, March 19, 2025 Board of Education meeting as the new Principal of Conejo Valley Adult School effective July 1, 2025.
Mr. Klinger currently serves as the Principal of Los Cerritos Middle School, a role he has held for nearly a decade. He first joined the Conejo twenty years ago, and has held administrator roles at both Thousand Oaks High School and Los Cerritos Middle School during his tenure with the District.
Mr. Klinger’s career in education spans three decades, through which he has excelled at communicating with shareholders, achieving set benchmarks and goals, and collaborating with community partners for the betterment of the school community he serves.
Ms. LaRue Pacheco currently serves as the Assistant Principal of Los Cerritos Middle School, a role she has held for twelve years. Prior to joining the Leopards’ administrative team, Ms. LaRue Pacheco served as both a Dean of Attendance and a Dean of Activities at Westlake High School.
Ms. LaRue Pacheco’s career in education spans more than three decades, through which time she has built strong relationships with colleagues, students, parents and key community shareholders, played a pivotal role in student achievement and showcased her commitment to cultivating a positive campus culture where students feel welcomed and supported.
CVUSD Students' Innovation Shines at the Annual Invention Convention Showcase
Last week, CVUSD hosted its seventh annual Invention Convention, where 3rd-5th grade students were invited to showcase their curiosity, innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills!
The Invention Convention is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Mathematics) aligned event that teaches students to seek out problems and create solutions, empowering them to make our world a better place. Students could work in groups or independently on their innovative projects with the following inventing/engineering design process as a guide:
Step 1 - ASK: Ask questions and get an idea
Step 2 - IMAGINE: Brainstorm solutions
Step 3 - PLAN: Start the research
Step 4 - CREATE: Build and design
Step 5 - EXPERIMENT: Test the model and analyze design
Step 6 - IMPROVE: Reflect on and finalize your invention
