The Weekly Update #9
Sep 15, 2024
Marvelous Falcon Families,
“Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people.” ~John Adams~
September 17, 2024 is Constitution Day or Citizenship Day. Our constitution provides freedom and protection for its citizens. Known as the most ardent advocate of the Constitution, John Adams once said, "Liberty cannot be preserved without general knowledge among people." Subsequent amendments were made to provide more rights for ostracized citizens of the nation; providing women and people of color the right to vote were added. As John Adams stated back then, our liberty is only preserved when knowledge is gained by the people who use it to strengthen the constitution. On this day, we must continue to work together to uphold our constitution in order to protect ALL THE PEOPLE of this great nation. Happy Constitution Day and Week, Falcons!
In addition, this past Thursday evening, we celebrated the Principal’s Honor Roll students, and the original plan was to recognize our scholars on stage in the Cafeteria. The stage and chairs were all set for our parents to see their students accept their certificates. However, there were so many parents and families attending that we had to move the venue to the lunch quad area, ten minutes before the start of the event!
What I experienced was an overwhelming amount of support and cooperation from our Hilltop Middle Community when I announced we were going to move the venue outside. I want to thank all of the parents for their flexibility and patience as we set things up on the stage. I also want to recognize our parents and students who helped carry the flowers over to the stage area. Thankfully, we started right on time at 6 PM.
There were 275 scholars that were recognized and with their families in attendance; we estimated a total of 600 people were at school to celebrate the scholars! Something that could have gone awry ended in the most beautiful way, my heart is full and I am grateful to each of you for being at such a memorable event. Thank you all.

Falcons, there is a free workshop coming up on September 21. The New Children’s Museum will be hosting their next Seed to Tree workshop called “Playful World Building” on Saturday September 21 with artist Robert Karimi from 10am-1pm.
This workshop is intended for ages 12+. During the workshop participants will:
• Tell stories and design games using imagination and play
• Build fantastical worlds and bring imaginary characters to life
• Have fun along the way!
This workshop, along with the series of Seed to Tree workshops, are all inspired by the life and writings of Octavia E. Butler. This specific workshop is inspired by Butler’s first imagined character, Silver Star, and will be facilitated by the incredible Karimi who creates engaging experiences for the community. If you could help us spread the word we’d greatly appreciate, here is the link to register for the workshop: New Children's Museum (ticketapp.org)

- Upon entry, all cell phones must be turned off and placed in the backpack.
- If a staff member directs a student to put it away, please listen and put cellphone in backpack.
- Cell phones are not allowed in the bathroom. If students are caught with cellphone in the bathroom, the phone will be taken immediately and must be picked up by the parents. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- If a staff member takes a cell phone away, they will give it back to student at the end of each period UNLESS it warrants being taken to the main office.
