The Spencer Scoop
Spencer Elementary September 20, 2024
Note From the Principal
Hello Spencer Families!
We have had a fabulous week of sunshine and learning! It is hard to believe we are halfway through September already. Thank you for all of the coins donated this week for Pink Week. We are always so grateful to our generous Roadrunner families and your willingness to help those in need.
We are going to do some ongoing spirit days this fall to celebrate our Lions and our wonderful Bridson family! We are going to wear our Lions gear on Fridays and orange/Brave like Brooklynn shirts on Wednesdays. One of my favorite parts of our building are the connections we have with each other and I am always bragging about how wonderful our Spencer community is. Have a wonderful weekend!!
Mrs. Boyd
Curriculum
September 2024
Hello Families,
During the 2023-24 school year, teachers and administration of Brighton Area Schools began the process of making our district curriculum more easily accessible for students and families. The district has started with the four core content areas (English, Social Studies, Science, and Math) K-12, although a few special courses will be added, based on the curriculum cycle. This is a multi-year process as it takes numerous hours and dedication by our teachers to align and upload the curriculum.
As curriculum is aligned and organized with our school calendar, you will see them uploaded onto a site called Atlas Rubicon. This site is now listed on our BAS web page under Curriculum. Additionally, here is the link to visit: Brighton Atlas.
If you have questions regarding a specific curriculum in the Atlas website, please contact your building principal. If you have questions about the implementation and building of Atlas, please contact the Curriculum and Instruction Department.
Fall Book Fair
Calling all book lovers: Spencer's Fall Book Fair will be on Wednesday, October 2nd and Thursday, October 3rd from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. in the Media Center. Teacher Wish Baskets will be on display, so please peruse the baskets and support our amazing teachers by buying one for the class. Volunteers will be needed, so please look for a sign-up from the PTO: we cannot do it without you.
Happy Reading,
Mrs. McBride

For Families Needed Assistance
Fueling Kids’ Futures
Dear Spencer Families:
If your child qualified for the Free and Reduced Meal Program last year or this year, s/he can also participate in the Fueling Kids' Futures program (formerly Blessings in a Backpack). This program sends six non-perishable meals home each Friday of the school year in your child's backpack. Its goal is to make sure that no child goes hungry on the weekend. This program is run by volunteers, there is no cost to you.
To enroll in this program, please download and print the form below. Contact the office if you are unable to print the form and one will be sent home with your student. The first backpack of food will be sent home on September 27th.
Changes in After School Transportation
We are starting to see an increase in phone calls at the end of the day with a change in your student's dismissal plan. Every call we have to make into your child's classroom is an interruption for the entire class. This disrupts their learning time and their teacher’s valuable instruction time. Please send a note in with your student in the morning or write it in your student's planner if there is a change in their after school transportation or contact the office by 2:45 PM (preferably before your student's lunch so we can pass a note to your child's teacher on their way past the office). This will eliminate the calls into the classroom and the disruption of class instruction. Please do not contact your child's teacher directly for any changes in their end of the day dismissal plans. Messages sent via email, Remind, See Saw, etc. are often not able to be checked throughout the day. In addition, this information would not be accessible to a guest teacher. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Art Room News
News from the Art Room:
The Art Room is a happy place as we revisit and/or introduce new procedures and materials. Our school is participating in a fundraiser with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items customized with your child’s artwork. They make fabulous holiday gifts!
Your student(s) have just started their creations, so please stay tuned for their individual link to order personalized items in early November!
All proceeds help support our creative artists at the amazing Spencer Elementary!
Keep creating,
Mrs. Martyn

Just In Case Clothes
Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes (that are weather appropriate) in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food/milk on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. If your student keeps a change of clothing in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need you to bring up a change of clothes. Thank you for your cooperation.
New for the 2024/2025 School Year
QR Code
Thank you for your patience as we get into the habit of using our new QR Code System for signing students in and out. For your convenience, a link to the codes is below and you can save these in your phone so you won't have to scan the QR code each time. Our top priority is to keep students safe, and in an effort to maximize security and minimize traffic in our lobby where students frequently pass through at any given time during the course of a school day, we are confident that the QR Code System helps us to achieve this goal.
Student Sign Out
After you have signed out your student(s), we ask that you wait on the bench outside and have your ID ready (Note there is no covering over the bench at the moment so bring an umbrella if it is raining). We have added a new question to the Sign Out Form (What time would you like to pick up your child/ren?) This way you can sign your student out to be in the lobby at a certain time and if all goes as it should, it will maximize the convenience for you.
Here are the QR Links to save to your phone for quick reference.
Water Bottles
Please remember to send your child to school each day with a refillable water bottle with their name on it. Spencer has water refilling stations throughout the building and we encourage students to drink water throughout the day.
