Greetings West Wolves and Parent/Caregivers,

Welcome to Week 2! We had a wonderful first week beginning new connections, creating our West Culture and getting lost a little less everyday! The collaboration happening around the building between staff, staff and students and student to student was beautiful and inspiring. It was phenomenal to see these spaces transformed into spaces for learning as they were filled with our students. We will continue to build on the successes as we enter Week 2.

During the month of August the Howl Newsletter came out every week as there was SO MUCH to share. We are still finding our communication cadence but will likely be transitioning the Howl to a monthly publication and have weekly Sunday night phone calls. We would love your feedback on our communication frequency and style. Feel free to email at jrploeg@sunprairieschools.org with thoughts/suggestions.

If you did not attend registration and need your picture taken, we will have a makeup day TODAY, Monday, September 12th for students to get their picture for IDs. Picture Retake day will be October 19 for students needing retakes or school pictures taken for the first time.

We are so excited to have our students filling our learning spaces. At SP West we will continue with the Grading for Learning work that was started at SP High School last year and will be consistent with SP East. Grades should be a reflection of a student's knowledge, skills and proficiency in a subject. Please see the details of our Grading for Learning expectations, policies/procedures below. Last week we laid the foundation for our community expectations together and focused on our CARES Framework in SP30. This week we are going to be diving into the "Big 6". These are the top 6 behaviors that students needed additional support in last year coming back from the pandemic and many of them can come with significant consequences. We will be discussing these behaviors very explicitly this week so that we have clear understanding of the expectations and consequences so that we can have a great year together. Please check-in with your student throughout the week about the conversations they are having about the "Big 6": hallways, vandalism, fights, threats, swearing at staff and vaping. In partnership together as student, parent/caregiver, and school staff we can support one another to have a fantastic year. We will share out the materials used at the end of the week so that you also have access to these schoolwide (and districtwide) expectations.

Back to School Night is scheduled for this Thursday, September 15th from 6:00pm-7:30pm. More information with details will be coming out very soon!

Yes, it's back! Registration for the 2022 Fall These Teens Mean Busine$$ Incubator is now open. From start to finish, teens learn how to create and launch their very own businesses and use them to make the world a better place. Attached is also the program brochure to share. Space is limited. As we prepare to start the year we are in need of awesome subs to help take care of our students when staff are out. Are you looking for a new opportunity? Do you know someone looking? Can you help spread the word? Please help us get the word out so that we can ensure that our students have the very best people supporting them even on days staff (teachers or support staff) need to be out. Having an ample supply of fantastic subs is also a great way to support our staff by allowing them peace of mind when they are out. Our Leaders of the Pack have done an INCREDIBLE job of leading so far! We have had students leading tours, welcoming in families, students and community and they will continue to lead throughout the year!

We would love YOU to be a Leader of the Pack! If you would like to step into this leadership role or would like to nominate someone to become a Leader of the Pack please fill out this form. Parents/caregivers if you think this is an awesome opportunity for your student please talk to them about it and then encourage them to fill out the form. As we prepare for our first home Wolf football game this Friday night, please review the updated event guidelines for the 2022/2023 school year. We are beyond excited to take the field, stage, pool, court, pitch, course and so much more as Wolves for the first time. Together we can make these fantastic, safe and enjoyable events for all.
