The Windsor Post
October 2024 Edition
From Windsor's Proud Principal: Mrs. Savage
Hello Windsor Families!
I hope this message finds you all safe and sound after the recent storm.
As we move forward into October, let's remember to Bring Our "A" Game every day—both in and out of the classroom. Together, we can achieve great things! Whether it's tackling challenging assignments or supporting a friend, each of us has a role to play in making this month a successful one for everyone.
Just a quick reminder of the eLearning assignments that are due. Failure to complete the assignments will result in your student being marked absent for the day.
eLearning Day - Friday, Sept. 27th: Assignments are due tomorrow, Oct. 2nd
eLearning Day - Monday, Sept. 30th: Assignments are due Friday, Oct. 4th
Thank you for your dedication and hard work, Wildcats. Let's make October the best yet!
October Writing Challenge
WE are so excited! 100 Wildcats completed the September Reading Challenge!! Those students will be invited to attend our next Books and Biscuits event on Monday, Oct. 4th at 8:15am. They will also receive a Golden Coin which allows them to choose a FREE book out of our Book Vending Machine!
If your child turned in their completed and signed Reading Challenge form, you would have received an invitation to attend the event with your child. If you received an invitation, please RSVP by Thursday, Oct. 4th.
OCTOBER WRITING CHALLENGE
For the month of October, we are challenging our students to WRITE, WRITE, WRITE!
Students received their October Writing Challenge Choice Board today.
Students need to complete THREE of the writing choices.
They should return their signed choice board and their writing choices by Oct. 28th.
Students who complete the challenge will attend our October Books and Biscuits event and get a Golden Coin for our Book Vending Machine!
Let's see if we can top 100 Wildcats!
Additional forms are linked below for your convenience.
5th Grade Yearbook Cover Contest
Our 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in an art contest to design the cover of our yearbook! This is a great way for our 5th graders to leave their mark on Windsor!
Students choose the design (either one they've created or using a template), they submit their very best work to their teacher, and then the Leadership team votes for the WINNER. There are templates available in sleeves on the bulletin board. It is our hope that students won't simply color the templates, but add their own creativity.
Each submission must have the following:
Windsor Elementary
Columbia, SC
A picture of WES (their teacher can share it)
Our theme motto "Bring Your "A" Game!"
Some form of representation of all 4 communities (Persistent, Accountable, Well-Balanced, Safe)
- Students are not able to work on their designs during instruction - these should be completed at home.
Submissions are DUE no later than Friday, Oct. 11th.
CogAT and Iowa Gifted and Talented (ALERT) 2nd Grade Assessment
Red Ribbon Week - October 21-25
WE Pink WE Can!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and WE would like to come together as a school community to honor and remember those who have fought, are fighting, or have been affected by breast cancer.
- WE hope you can join us for our school-wide annual WE Pink WE Can walk! Flier below has details.
- Flyers for t-shirt orders have come home with each student. Students, staff and families are all able to purchase and Windsor donates all proceeds to Prisma Heath Breast Centers in the Columbia area. Additional order forms are linked below. Forms and money are due FRIDAY, Oct. 4th.
- If you would like to remember or honor someone special who has fought breast cancer, please take a moment to complete this Google Form. You can share the first name of a loved one or friend who has experienced breast cancer, and we will celebrate their strength and courage by hanging a ribbon in their honor. All ribbons will be displayed in our school windows throughout October.
- This is a great opportunity to teach our children the power of empathy and community, as we show our support for those who have been touched by breast cancer. Thank you for participating and helping us raise awareness.
- Deadline: Please submit your entry by October 21, 2024 .
Together, WE can make a difference!
