GVMS February Newsletter 2025!
February 2nd, 2025
Principal's Message
We have made it to February. Though this can be a tough month because we are in the middle of a long haul between winter break and spring break, it is also an exciting month of celebrations and kindness. Officially, it is Black History month, and we celebrate Valentine's Day and the Presidents' Day holidays. We are also wrapping up girls' basketball and will begin wrestling practice on Tuesday, the 4th.
We at GVMS are making the month of February our "Kindness" month. Throughout the month, we will have lessons around kindness and its importance for our community and our own health. A great diner conversation starter this month may be to ask what act of kindness your child participated in our observed. This always leads to heart warming conversations.
In kindness,
Ms. Davis
Transportation Information
Bus Rides, Routes and More
Garfield 16 continues to provide bus transportation to students throughout the area. Students are expected to follow the behavior expectations to ride the bus. Since December, GVMS has been providing additional supervision on all buses for the after school routes in order to support driver and student safety. Throughout the last several months one of the issues we have also been addressing is that of route efficiency. In order to ride the bus, students needed to fill out a bus information sheet. We used these sheets to create our Bus Pass cards that are used with the Bus Hub app. If you have not uploaded this app to your device, please do so using the links.
One of the recent revelations of our review is that there are many more students registered to ride the bus than actually are riding. If your situation has changed, you have moved, or your child may need to ride a different route, please contact Stephanie Hart in Transportation.
Mrs. Stephanie Hart
Operations Secretary
Monitoring our bus routes, who is riding and where they are is critical to the safety and efficiency of our transportation system.
Beginning on March 11th, all secondary students in grades 6-12 must present their bus pass in order to ride the bus. NO PASS/NO RIDE will begin on March 11.
If your child has misplaced their bus pass, they need to contact the office staff at school to secure a new pass.
NWEA Growth!
In December 2024, all students participated in the winter window of the NWEA assessments for math and reading. GVMS has exceeded the expectations for growth! All three grade levels exceeded the growth expectation in Reading and 7th and 8th graders exceeded the growth expectation for Math. This is a testament to the hard work of our learners and the focused instruction of our teachers.
Growth precedes achievement. This means that with this result, we can predict that our achievement scores will rise for both NWEA and CMAS assessments.
Parents, please remember that the test scores do not define your child by themselves. Every learner is a compilation of many factors. They are people who are growing and learning, and our testing is simply one aspect of that hard work. As we enter the spring testing windows for CMAS and NWEA, please continue to support your child's growth and achievement by showing them you value their education and their growth. Parental support to perform well at school is one part of our partnership to help your children t continue to grow and learn.
Thank you for your support.
