How to Report Student Absences
Ensuring your child’s attendance is up-to-date is crucial for their academic success. If your child attends the Broadway K-8 campus and will be absent from school, please follow these simple steps to notify us:
Contact the Front Desk: Call the front desk at 816-499-8000 or email us at elementary.attendance@cwckansascity.org (for K-5th grade students) or middle.attendance@cwckansascity.org (for 6th-8th grade students). Be sure to provide your child's full name, grade, and the reason for their absence. When possible, please include your child's classroom teacher in this communication so that they are also aware.
Report Absences by 9:00 am. To help us maintain accurate attendance records, please report absences by 9:00 am on the day of the absence.
Reporting absences directly to the front office is important so that our nurse can track trends in sicknesses and ensure the health and safety of all students. It also ensures that Ms. Jamesetta has information as quickly as possible to avoid causing confusion for families who receive unnecessary calls regarding absences. Your prompt communication helps us support your child's learning journey and maintain a safe and organized school environment. Thank you for your cooperation!
Fall Club Fees Due
Registration for fall clubs ended last week, and families have been emailed with club confirmations, scholarship notifications, or notifications of cancelled clubs.
Please make sure you pay the club fee before Friday, September 13th by logging into your Parent Portal, clicking Fees, then adding the club fee to your cart and checking out. Any students with unpaid balances will not be allowed to start clubs the first week.
Clubs begin the week of September 16th and meet once a week until 5 pm. As a reminder, all CampFire students who are participating in clubs will go to their CampFire classrooms after their clubs end.
Students being picked up at 5 pm will be picked up at the green benches. Please park and walk to the green benches to pick up your child from their club sponsor. Do not wait in the carpool lane or block the parking lot. Thank you!
Reach out to kristi.reneau@cwckansascity.org with any questions.
Operation Breakthrough Programs
As you may have heard, our partnership with Operation Breakthrough has grown this year, bringing new programs to our school that promise to enrich our students' learning experiences:
PreK Program: Our youngest learners are in for a fantastic start with the PreK program, which currently supports 22 students with room for more. Under the expert guidance of these teachers, this program emphasizes social-emotional learning, helping students build crucial interpersonal skills and emotional resilience. In addition, it focuses on preparing them for kindergarten by introducing foundational academic skills in a fun and engaging way. We’re excited to see our PreK students thrive and grow through this comprehensive approach!
Kindergarten Classroom: Our kindergarten class, led by Ms. Veronica, is buzzing with curiosity and exploration. With 16 eager students (and space for additional students), the classroom is currently diving into exciting topics like the solar system and their roles in the community. Ms. Veronica is guiding them through these fascinating subjects with the help of additional teachers, helping them make connections between their learning and the world around them.
3rd and 4th Grade Classroom: A group of 20 of our 3rd and 4th grade students embarked on an exciting new adventure last week, attending a new class at Operation Breakthrough all day, every day, where they can have access to all of the specialized classrooms on the campus. They’ve just begun exploring the Maker Space, where they’ll engage in hands-on projects and innovative activities designed to spark their creativity and problem-solving skills. This unique opportunity allows them to expand their learning beyond the traditional classroom setting and explore new interests. We're excited to see the ways they grow this year!
Middle School Electives: Every Wednesday morning, our middle schoolers head to Operation Breakthrough to participate in a range of electives offered in the Maker Space. They have the opportunity to explore culinary skills, woodworking, fiber arts, and more. These engaging sessions not only enhance their creativity but also provide valuable, practical skills that they can apply in real-world settings.
Stay tuned for more updates on these programs throughout the year!
Artsonia Student Art Gallery
This year in art, Ms. Clark is testing a new way to share student artwork with families and the community. Student art will be uploaded on a platform called Artsonia. Artsonia is the world's largest collection of student art, published by teachers and students from around the world. Parents and family can view the art online, maintain a digital art gallery, leave comments and order keepsakes featuring the artwork (20% of all purchases are donated back to CWC). You also gain access to hundreds of virtual art classes for your child to enjoy from home. Students in upper elementary and middle school will be documenting their own work and writing artists statements. Ms. Clark will document and upload work made by younger students. Follow the QR code below to connect to your student's account!
Vision Screenings - September 17th & 19th
We are excited to collaborate with KidSight’s vision screening program to provide free screenings for all of our Broadway K-8 campus students. Grades Kindergarten through 5th grade will be screened on Tuesday, September 17th and middle school grades will be screened on Thursday, September 19th. Each screening only lasts about 30 seconds and all participating students will receive a detailed letter explaining the results and any recommended next steps with available resources. We will be sending more information home with your student this week. Please check their folders and backpacks. If you do not want your student to be screened, please sign and return the KidSight letter to opt out or contact Johanna Chambers, Director of Student Support, at johanna.chambers@cwckansascity.org. All students will be screened except those whose families have declined.
Ice Cream Social - Thursday, September 19th
Get ready for a sweet and fun-filled evening! All PreK through 8th grade families are invited to join us for our upcoming Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 19th from 6-7:30 pm on the school playground. We'll kick off with a brief meeting for caregivers to discuss upcoming school events and important updates. After that, it’s time for the real treat: enjoy a variety of delicious ice cream flavors while the kids have a blast on the playground!
To make this event even more special, we’re asking families to sign up for item donations. Check out our signup sheet here to see how you can contribute. Items can be dropped off at school the week of September 16th - or bring them directly to the event if you're able to arrive at 6 pm!
Don’t miss out on this delightful community event—mark your calendars and come ready for a scoop of fun!
