Week of 11/11/2024
A Message From Mr. Johnson:
Hello Sandhill Families,
We have an exciting week ahead at Sandhill!
- This Monday, November 11th, we will host our Veterans Day Assembly to honor and celebrate the contributions of those who have served in the armed forces. We warmly invite veterans who are family members of Sandhill students to join us for this special event.
On Wednesday, November 13th, we are thrilled to welcome author Aaron Reynolds to Sandhill! Aaron is the author of popular children’s books like Creepy Carrots! and Nerdy Birdy. He’ll be sharing his writing journey, the importance of creativity, and his love for storytelling. It’s sure to be a fun and inspiring visit for our students!
The weather is changing, and as many of you know, it’s always a bit colder on our hill due to the wind. Please make sure your children come to school with jackets, hats, and gloves to stay warm during recess and outdoor activities.
Thank you for your continued support, and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions. Have a wonderful week!
Bob/Mr. Johnson
School Updates
Next Path Error
Dear Families,
Last week, you may have received an email from no-reply@nextpath.app with the subject line: "From Fox Prairie - Information About Your Student's Reading"
This was a valid email from Sandhill Elementary School about your student’s reading However, the subject line should not have included the reference to Fox Prairie. We are using new software to help us communicate with families, and this subject line was an error on the district side. We apologize for our miscommunication.
We have now corrected the subject line in the email. We will email you the same information with the corrected subject line, which will appear as follows: "Information About Your Student’s Reading"
We apologize for our error and are eager to share information about your student’s reading. Please click this link and "Acknowledge" the plan. This is the same plan that was communicated with your family at conferences. As always, please contact me or your child’s teacher with questions or concerns.
Best,
Bob
Art To Remember
Our school has teamed up with Art to Remember, and they can transfer student artwork onto keepsake products like mugs, keychains, and necklaces. Today, November 4, students bring home an order form with their artwork printed on the cover, then you can order from over 50 products. The keepsakes also make great gifts for family and friends.
Plus, every purchase helps raise money for our school!
Our order deadline is November 18. If you place your order by the deadline, your order will be shipped to the school for students to take home at no extra cost. If you miss the deadline, you can still order but you will be charged a shipping fee.
Thank you for supporting our student artists!!!

School District Updates
Important Weather Updates
Please be aware of the following:
1. New Weather Terminology: The National Weather Service (NWS) has updated its terminology for cold weather events.
Wind Chill Watch: Changed to Extreme Cold Watch
Wind Chill Warning: Changed to Extreme Cold Warning
Wind Chill Advisory: Changed to Cold Weather Advisory
2. School Closure/Delay Decisions: We will make decisions regarding school closures or delays as early as possible during inclement weather events. The District Administrator, in consultation with the Transportation Supervisor and area peers, will determine the best course of action. We aim to communicate these decisions by 6:00 a.m. to allow ample time for planning.
3. 2-Hour Delays: As a reminder, our district utilizes 2-hour delays during winter weather events. This approach balances safety concerns with educational continuity. Please note that breakfast will not be available on 2-hour delay days, but lunch will be provided as usual.
For more information, please see our Inclement Weather page. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate winter weather together.
November Antiracism resources
We are highlighting two events in November: National Native American Heritage Month and International Day for Tolerance (November 16). The LMS team has compiled the following resources for your review with your children this month. Resources are sorted in two parts: 1. Elementary students and 2. Middle & high school students.
