Pleasant Valley Family Newsletter
April 11, 2025
Our mission is to empower and inspire a community of lifelong learners and leaders!
Hello PV Families,
The last day to order yearbooks is April 17th. This is a hard deadline. Information to order is listed below!
Important! Please read:
Senate Bill 288, signed into law in January 2023, requires that school districts provide elementary students with developmentally appropriate instruction on child sexual abuse prevention, including information on available counseling resources for children who are sexually abused. School districts are required to implement this instruction annually. All elementary students in Parma will receive classroom instruction in child sexual abuse prevention. This instruction aims to educate our students on these critical topics and empower them to recognize, prevent, and respond appropriately to such situations.
In collaboration with our Home Liaisons, Teachers, Deans, and Administrators, we have selected lessons from Second Steps’ Child Protection Unit. To view this resource, click here: https://www.secondstep.org/child-protection. Upon written request from a parent/guardian, a student can be excused from the instruction, which is one lesson that will last about 30 minutes. Your child’s teacher can provide you with the date this lesson will occur in your child’s classroom. Please send an email to your child’s teacher or me to opt your child out of the lesson in sexual abuse prevention by May 2, 2025.
We encourage you to engage in discussions with your child about these topics. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this instruction, please do not hesitate to contact me. If your family would like counseling or need additional resources for children who are sexually abused, please consider the free, confidential hotline National Sexual Assault Hotline by calling 1.800.656.HOPE, visit www.earlyopenoften.org, or chat online at rainn.org. If you have any concerns, please let me know.
Reminder: As we begin to prepare for our spring showers, please send students to school appropriately prepared. Rain jackets and umbrellas are allowed and appropriate (for arrival and dismissal). Students will dismiss in all types of weather including light rain. On a similar note, please send your student(s) to school with a change of clothes that are sealed in a Ziploc type bag to keep in their locker. This helps to avoid a call home if there ever is an accident involving mud or water during recess.
I always include the guidance below, reporting anything you are aware of is concerning or not right. I am grateful to our students, teachers, parents, and guardians who follow this guidance and help keep our school safe! So....If you hear something from your child that seems wrong, immediately check with your child's teacher or report to an administrator. If safety is ever compromised, we will immediately notify all impacted families. Creating a safe, orderly, and welcoming learning environment is critical to educating and preparing our students to achieve their highest potential. The safety of your children will always be at the forefront. Our dedicated staff works hard to ensure your child is welcomed and dismissed safely daily, whether via car, bus, or walking.
Thank you for your partnership with Pleasant Valley. We are very appreciative of all of you! If you have any questions, concerns, or just a great idea you would like to share, please email me at bokas@parmacityschools.org or call the main office at (440) 843-3867 any weekday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
On behalf of the Pleasant Valley staff, we wish you all a safe and enjoyable spring break.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Mrs. Stephanie Boka

Please take a minute to review our arrival and dismissal procedures.
STEM Car Riders: Form two lines and then merge back to one line when approaching the green paper dumpster. Please be courteous of one another when merging, this should be done by every other car. Please continue to display the car rider number.
Traditional Car Riders: Cars should not be entering from the "Bus Entrance". This is clearly marked and should not be used as an entrance. Please continue to display the car rider number.
Walkers: Students must leave campus at dismissal. The playground is closed after school. The new Arlington parking lot at the top of the hill should not be used for student pickup as this causes numerous safety concerns with student crossing parking lots and traffic.
Families in Need
Pleasant Valley students and families can find free clothing, food, and hygiene products at The Grace Place housed inside of All Saints Episcopal Church at 8911 W. Ridgewood in Parma. Their hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10 am - 2pm.https://www.allsaintsparma.org/thegraceplace
Families can also go to Audrey’s Outreach, located at the Brook Park Community Church of the Brethren, 16845 Holland Road, Brook Park for free clothing, food, and household linens. Please go to their website http://www.audreysoutreach.org/ or call 216-433-1515 to view their hours of operation. Pleasant Valley Elementary School will be taking any unclaimed lost and found items to these organizations so that families can access jackets, clothing, and basic necessities free of charge. If you have any questions, please contact PV Home Liaison Susan Turner at turners@parmacityschools.org.
Birthday & Invites Policy
If a generous family would like their child to pass out a birthday treat, we recommend a non-edible one that can be passed out and sent home at the end of the day.
If you DO NOT want your child to receive a birthday treat from a classmate, please let their teacher know.
Gifts for students may not be delivered to the school. Balloon deliveries, gift baskets, flowers, etc. disrupt the educational process for all students. Birthday parties during the school day can not be accommodated.
Please check with the classroom teacher before sending any birthday or other treats to school for the class.
Some of our children have food allergies; therefore, all treats must be ready to pass out to the class, store-bought, labeled with ingredients, and individually wrapped.
Store-bought cupcakes in a sealed container with an ingredient label are also acceptable.
Distributing invitations to non-school activities such as birthday parties is prohibited unless all students of at least one gender in the class are invited.
