Coat and Jacket Weather for 3K-3rd Grade
We have decided to start a 3K-3rd grade threshold for wearing coats outside. It is very windy on the playground. Students must wear a coat/jacket outside for recess if the temperature is below 50 . When the temperature is between 50-60 at least long sleeves. We will certainly use judgement for the days that the sun is out and the wind is low and coats/jackets may not be necessary. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, 3K-3rd Grade Staff
Referendum Fact of the Week!
Each week from now until April 2, we’ll take this opportunity to educate our families on the upcoming Operating Referendum.
Did you know In-Person voting begins next week? Residents can vote in person via absentee ballot by going to their municipal office (town or village hall) from March 19 through March 29. For more information about your polling place on April 2 or to register to vote, you can visit myvote.wi.gov .
World Down Syndrome Day
Join us on Thursday, March 21: The "Lots of Socks" campaign is a celebration of everything that makes all of us different, and yet the same. Wear your brightest and boldest socks to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day!
Down syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes an increase in an additional chromosome from the normal number of chromosomes, which is 46 chromosomes, which turns into 47 chromosomes, due to an abnormal division of cells in the genetic material from chromosome No. 21. The material consists of three chromosomes instead of two. Therefore, the 21st of the 3rd month of the year (March) was chosen to celebrate Down Syndrome Day, to raise awareness of DS, and to affirm the principles of love, hope, and accepting others' differences.
Why the crazy socks? When looking at the karyotype, we notice that the chromosomes look like paired socks, so socks were used as a way to celebrate Down Syndrome Day.
This information was provided by Down Syndrome International at https://www.ds-int.org/listing/category/world-down-syndrome-day

March Madness for Lakeland Animal Shelter
The Elementary Student Council is going to sponsor a "change only" drive for Lakeland Animal Shelter. We are going to hold this drive from March 11-20, 2024. Each homeroom will have a bucket for change. The Student Council has created a bracket. We will let students know how each homeroom is doing over the course of the week and a half. Unlike the NCAA March Madness, the standings will be regularly updated meaning the only total which will be used to declare the winner will be announced after March 20. The winning homeroom will receive a treat! Again, this is a "change only" drive.
Let the Madness Begin!!!
