Curtis Chronicles
December 5, 2023
Welcome from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are looking forward to all the holiday things between now and winter break to close out 2023! The concerts, games, performances, events are all wonderful to see our kids in action! They are also in action learning and growing in their academics as well and we are proud of the growth kids are making each day.
We have a few reminders we are providing kids here at school lately, but if you could remind them of these at home too that would be great!
- Cell phones are expected to be in students’ backpacks, not pockets. The distractions phones cause to learning is why we ask students to keep those in the bags.
- Students should not be using body spray in halls or classrooms.
- Food should only be eaten in the cafeteria.
- Crossing the streets should be done in the crosswalks for safety.
Thank you for those of you who completed the parent needs survey. We will use that information to provide resources and information for parents through newsletters, parent nights and website information. One piece of information that was asked for was how best to communicate with us at school. Parents are always welcome to call any of our staff for support, questions or concerns. You are also welcome to send an email and ask for someone to give you a call. We want to partner with parents and we do our best to get back to parents within 24 hours if possible. Of course, if anything is sent over weekends or holidays it may take longer to get a response.
We hope everyone has a great week!
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock
Principal

COUNSELORS CORNER! Class of 2028!
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin, has contributed to adolescent overdose deaths nearly tripling from 2019-2021. Victims, including young tweens, are fatally overdosing on one pill, having no idea that fentanyl was laced in what they took. And sadly, no community has been free from the effects of this crisis.
Join us for this important discussion to grow the community of educated and empowered parents and students who know what fentanyl is, how to prevent accidental dosing, and how to recognize and respond to an overdose.
Texas PTA will host a panel of experts to discuss the fentanyl crisis and how it's impacting our children and communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions for our panelists prior to and during the webinar. Please follow the link below to register for this free webinar and include any questions you would like considered for the Q&A portion of the meeting.
