WFBMS FAMILY NEWS
September 30, 2024
Greetings Middle School Families,
As the calendar turns to October, it is time to begin thinking about Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conferences. At the middle school, conferences can be held with each of your child’s teachers. These conferences tend to be focused and brief. While we encourage parents/guardians to connect with all of their children’s teachers, we know that this is not always feasible. Therefore, we encourage you to prioritize based upon the needs of your child.
Conferences will be held on October 30th and 31st. Conferences on October 30th are in-person from 4-8 and are first-come, first-serve. You will go to the teacher’s classroom for the conference in any order you choose; you may need to wait if another parent is already in a conference. These conferences last about 3-5 minutes. On October 31st, conferences are virtual via Zoom from 11 AM - 7 PM. Parents/guardians can sign up for virtual conferences through Family Access starting at 3 PM on Tuesday, October 15th. Each conference time slot is 10 minutes. A zoom link will be shared in Family Access by October 30th.
Additionally, students have an early release day on the morning of October 30th. This is an in-person half day from 8:05 - 11:40 AM. An abbreviated class schedule will be shared in the weeks ahead.
Should you have any questions about conferences, please do not hesitate to contact us.
On another note, I would like to send a huge thank you to our PTO for organizing a successful 6th Grade Social this past Friday. The event was well attended, full of high-positive energy, and a fantastic time from start to finish. Additionally, I would like to thank all the parent volunteers who helped make the event a success. I appreciate all the time and energy that went into planning and carrying out the event.
Best,
Geoff Pontus
Principal

Cross Country Update!
The Whitefish Bay Middle School Cross Country team is up and "running"! Cross Country is a sport that runs outside on a variety of terrain...dirt, grass, hills...we do it all! Runners have an opportunity to compete in meets hosted by different schools. The average middle school meet distance is between 1.5-1.8 miles.
This year's team features over 120 active participants and runs until mid-October. We've competed in four meets so far, with our overall team finishing 1st or 2nd in three of those meets. As we continue through the season, many runners are finding new strength and endurance in this lifetime sport. We look forward to continued growth and success as the season winds down in the next couple of weeks.
7th Grade Camp!
Hello, 7th Grade Families!
The camp chaperone / volunteer sign-up is now live! Please complete this form to indicate interest no later than 9/30/24.
We are looking for daytime and overnight chaperones. I know you might be wondering, “Can I do both?” Yes, you can! Just indicate your interest on the form.
Please note that all interested volunteers will be required to go through the district volunteer application process. You can learn more here. If you are already an active district volunteer and have gone through the application / background check process for the year, there is no need to do so again. Human Resources will assist with confirmation of this.
Thank you for your interest. Please reach out to the middle school at 414-963-6800 with any questions you may have. Also, if you have not done so already, please sign up for camp. We like all 7th graders to attend and are happy to provide any assistance we can to make this a great experience for each child.
Mathcounts
Does your child love math? Would they enjoy tackling challenging problems with friends? Then Mathcounts is the club for them! Mathcounts is the school’s math club that meets once a week after school from October to February. We work on building some general math knowledge about competition content as well as a variety of problem solving strategies. This year, we will be meeting after school on Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:20 in the LMC. There is a school-level competition in January, and in February, some of the students will have the opportunity to compete at the regional level.
If your child is interested, please register using this form. There is a $20 fee that will be assessed by the office in Skyward. Our first meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 10th. Questions? Please reach out to Mrs. Scozzafave at becky.scozzafave@wfbschools.com
