Career Fair: Building & Construction Trade Council of South Central Wisconsin

The Building and Construction Trade Council of South Central Wisconsin is excited to invite students to their annual Career fair on March 12, 2025. They will have 17 different union trades in attendance with hands on activities for your students to learn about different careers in the skilled trades.

Why should students attend?

  • Apprenticeship: Learn how to apply, and the process for application for each trade.
  • Union wages and benefits: Learn about the great wage and benefit packages the trades have and the value of having no college debt
  • Students will engage in hands on activities to learn about what each trade does-there are so many pathways! Help your student find their passion!
  • Going into the trades is a viable career pathway and your student should have as many opportunities as possible to explore the possibilities that exist. A traditional 4 year college degree is not the only option.

Ms. Johnston will take a group of interested students to this event on March 12. This opportunity is ideal for 11th and 12th grade students interested in a youth apprenticeship (during high school) or registered apprenticeship (after high school) in the trades. Students should check their email for information from Ms. Johnston!

Start College Now & Early College Credit Program - March 1 Deadline! Start College Now & Early College Credit Program - March 1 Deadline!

The Early College Credit (ECCP) and Start College Now (SCN) programs allow public high school students who meet certain requirements to take post-secondary courses at a Wisconsin technical college, a UW System college or university, a Wisconsin tribally controlled college, or a Wisconsin private, nonprofit college or university.

Through the Early College Credit Program and/or the Start College Now Program, the VASD Board of Education will determine if a desired college course can be taken for high school credit and is not comparable to a current course offered by the district. In such cases, and unless the student fails to complete or get a passing grade in the course, the district will pay the cost of tuition and fees (up to 18 postsecondary credits) and the student will receive both high school and college credit. This high school credit will then count toward the student meeting high school graduation requirements needed to earn a high school diploma.

Applications for fall courses are due by March 1 and for spring courses by October 1. To obtain more information about this program, students should contact their counselor or the VAHS School to Career Coordinator, Ms. Johnston
