Principal's Message
Happy Sunday!
I hope you're staying cool this weekend!!
Looking at the weather forecast, it looks like we'll have temps around 106 tomorrow, down to 99 by Tuesday, and way down to 82 by Wednesday!!! Looks like we're almost out of the heat! As I write this (here in my office) it has just started to pour down raining--with lots of thunder, too! That should cool things off for a while!
You might not know it, but September is Suicide Prevention Month. I know it's a difficult topic, but all of us need to be continually on the lookout to help protect our children (and the other young people that our children hang out with). Here's a link to the "Prevention" newsletter put out by the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE)--and their tips on "Awareness" and mental health services. Please check it out--it's well worth a quick look! Remember, that we do have a social worker and a counselor here at Susan Nelson if your child is in need of talking to someone!
Also check out the graphic below my signature line. It has some good suggestions and ideas about how to combat self harm!
Here's to a healthy (and cooler) week ahead!

Start of the 2nd Attendance Month!
This past Friday marked the end of the first attendance month of the 2024-2025 school year--and now we're starting MONTH TWO! It's amazing how quickly time flies when you're working hard!
I am so incredibly proud of each of our students for having such a strong start to this school year. Independent study can be rigorous as it requires a high level of self-discipline, determination, and consistency. Despite this, so many of our students have focused and got the work done!
Congratulations!
As a reminder to our students: Please bring both your school ID and your Chromebook to school every day. School IDs are necessary for entry, and we have a limited number of Chromebooks available for checkout if you forget yours. If you haven't already, you can check out a Chromebook from our school library.
The second attendance month starts TOMORROW (Monday, September 9th) and ends on October 4th. There are 20 school days in this month, and students must earn 18 days to reach the required 90% attendance.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to your teacher or to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Our New Social Worker
I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new School Social Worker at Rancho Vista and Susan Nelson. My name is Yesenia Lopez, and I am excited to be here.
A Little About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been part of TVUSD for about 4 years now. I have worked at MMS, TVHS, and RVHS/SN. Working with at-risk youth is something that I am passionate about.
What I Can Offer
In my role, I will be available to support both students and staff in a variety of ways:
Individual and Group Counseling: I provide support for students dealing with personal, emotional, or social challenges. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable discussing their concerns.
Resource Connection: I can assist in connecting students and families with community resources and services, including housing, healthcare, and financial assistance.
Crisis Intervention: In times of crisis, I will be here to offer immediate support and help navigate through challenging situations.
Feel free to drop by, or you can reach me by ylopez@tvusd.us. I am here to support you and am eager to get to know each of you.

Opportunities for Students from the City of Temecula
The City of Temecula’s Workforce & Education Development Division has shared with us some upcoming events that can be a big benefit to our students!
- Rocktober is an annual fall music competition that will be held on Saturday, October 26th in the Temecula Valley region. This event is a celebration of young and talented musicians who come together to showcase their skills and compete for exciting prizes. The competition takes place at the Community Recreation Center Amphitheater and features a total of 16 bands and musicians delivering outstanding performances to both a lively audience and a panel of judges. Participants include solo singers and bands.
- The annual Young Women's Career Conference is a breakfast event scheduled for the Thursday, December 5th at the Temecula Conference Center from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. This inspiring gathering brings together 150 high school girls from across Temecula, providing them with valuable insights into a wide array of career paths guided by empowering female industry leaders. Each year, the City invites a select number of students and a representative from each high school in the City. The City will share more information as we get closer to December! STAY TUNED!
See the flyers below for more information about each event!
