The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
What a week it has been! We began with the uncertainty surrounding a potential hurricane and ended on a high note with a remarkable gala fundraiser for the La Porte Education Foundation.
It was an honor to have La Porte alum and Texas Country Reporter host J.B. Sauceda grace us with his presence. His support underscores the strength of our community and its commitment to our students. Over its 31-year history, our Education Foundation has generously provided $2.8 million in grants to La Porte teachers, significantly enhancing teaching and learning. This incredible support has helped foster an enriching educational environment for our students, and we are deeply grateful for the Foundation's ongoing efforts.
I am also thrilled to share that Project Launch has blasted off for the 2024-25 school year. This innovative program, in partnership with the University of Houston-Clear Lake, is off to a fantastic start with more than 150 of our fifth- and sixth-grade GT students. Project Launch offers these young scholars the opportunity to engage in STEM-based courses led by college professors and graduate students. It’s the continuation of the great learning experience in providing our students with unique and enriching educational experiences.
We’re excited to announce the arrival of our stunning new band trailer! It’s not only functional but also a beautiful rolling billboard that shows off our LP pride. A huge thank you to the stakeholders who approved this through Bond 2023 and our Board of Trustees for making this possible. Here’s to many great performances ahead!
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Shout-out to Bulldogs Tennis player Cristopher Barragan, who last week led the varsity team to a 10-9 district win over Angleton with his seventh straight singles victory. For his efforts, Cristopher was named as a La Porte High School Athlete of the Week.
- Kudos to Lady Dawg Volleyball defensive specialist Brianna Ramos, who also received Athlete of the Week honors. Brianna, a senior, is known for giving 110% every day and leading through her work ethic and determination.
- On Friday, 45 cross country teams from across Greater Houston convened at Northwest Park for the annual Bulldog Invitational. When 1,300 student-athletes are involved and the races run smoothly and on time, it is because of excellent organization and leadership. Huge thanks and congratulations to the La Porte High School coaches and volunteers who put on this great event.
- Mega-kudos to everyone who supported the La Porte Education Foundation at its annual gala on Saturday. This outpouring of generosity will find its way back into our schools through the Foundation's Innovative Classroom Grants program.
Finally, I hope to see you this coming Saturday at our annual Health and Safety Fair. Join us from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the James H. Baker Sixth Grade Campus for a fun and free event. With dozens of exhibitors and various activities, it's a great opportunity for families to engage with resources that promote health and safety.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our schools. Together, we are making a significant impact on the lives of our students.
In your service,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Must-Knows For This Week
- La Porte ISD is excited to introduce the easy option of paying for all school fees/spirit items with our new RevTrak online credit card payment system. Simply create an account, find your campus, choose your fee to pay and check out. The best part is that you will not be charged a fee to use the site. Access RevTrak here. (If you are adding funds to your student’s meal account, you will continue to use the My School Bucks website.)
- The 2024-25 Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct are available online. Please familiarize your student with the contents. We are strictly enforcing the district dress code; you can review it beginning on page 54 of the Student Code of Conduct. Thank you for helping us ensure that our students dress appropriately.
- If your child rides the bus, we encourage you to download the SMART Tag Parent app. With the SMART Tag Parent App, families enjoy great features such as push notifications for load/unload status, proximity to home/school alerts and real-time location of your student's bus. Questions? Call our dedicated Transportation Department at 281-604-7177.
- Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all La Porte ISD students this year! Supplemental food, such as fruits and vegetables, are also free for students who bring their lunch. (No registration is necessary.)
