From Dr. Davis
Please join us this Saturday, May 4, 2024, for the 22nd Azalea Classic!! The races begin promptly at 8:00 a.m., 8:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. We hope to see you there!
Thank you to the PTA for organizing the ticket sales for the UPES Musical, The Little Mermaid Jr. The PTA will sell tickets in front of the school on Friday May 3, 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. and Wednesday, May 8, 1:30 - 2:30.p.m. Mr. Campbell will sell tickets here at school on Monday May 6th 7:40 a.m.-8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Families can pay for tickets using cash or check made payable to the UPES PTA.
Thank you for your support as students in grades 3-5 completed the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) testing last month. We are on track to complete all initial testing and make up testing by Friday, May 3, 2024. We could not have completed this herculean task almost two weeks before the testing window closed without parental support.
Last, we'd like to thank the community for stepping up their volunteerism to ensure Pre-K and Kindergarten can enjoy atleast one field trip this year. For context, Pre-K and Kindergarten have a 1:4 chaperone ratio for field trips per PGCPS. As the field trips are the same day, we need 36 chaperones to make this field trip happen. The county requires half of the chaperones to be PGCPS employees, which means our school will operate using a skeletal staff that day, but it will be worth it. We have asked everyone to chaperone these field trips from the cafeteria aides, parents of non Pre-K and Kindergarten students, and many others. We are still awaiting approval of the field trip packet. Thank you to everyone involved!!
We will publish the next Eagle Newsletter on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. However, if you would like to read back issues of the Eagle News Newsletter, you can find this year's published newsletters on our school's website under the heading 'Announcements and Newsletters.' If you have questions between now and then, please contact me at Toi.Davis@pgcps.org or 301-985-1898.
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) continues to follow the state and local guidance in the collection of student and teacher attendance. Administrative Procedure 5113 identifies this process for lawful and unlawful absences. PGCPS is responsible for identifying, collecting, and transmitting data to local, state, and federal agencies for purposes of compliance, accountability, and school system funding for student attendance. Strong monitoring of systems, implementation of a streamlined process, and using objective and accurate data related to attendance collection is crucial. Physical attendance of staff and students will be collected in the 2023-2024 school year and daily attendance procedures will be communicated so all stakeholders are aware of PGCPS’ definition of being considered present.
