Principal Update
Pine Lane Crew,
We did it! We have completed another year of school! Our 6th grade is headed off to Middle School and our Kindergarteners are officially 1st graders! The Bear Crawl was a huge success grossing over $25,000 and meeting our goal. These funds will be going toward new chairs for our students. It was also a ton of fun to see our Crew in their matching shirts and just enjoying the event on Tuesday. Congratulations, too, to our Pine Lane Alumni who are graduating high school!
This year our Crew has done amazing things! We are so proud of the growth that each one of our students has demonstrated. And I know full well the level of effort our teacher put forth seeking to push our students to higher and higher levels. We have been seeing the fruits of these efforts as we continue to see academic improvement as a whole school as well as with our students with Disabilities and those who are both learning English and trying to do school. This was the intention of our theme “All means All!” We believe all students can achieve at high levels and we as a Crew are determined to build on the successes of this school year and send our students out from Pine Lane ready to contribute to a better world.
As your children head out into summer break, we hope that you are all able to find time to rest from the fast pace of the school year, connect as a family to reinforce those most foundational relationships, and provide opportunities for curiosity and learning to occur playfully.
Child development researcher, Dr. Karyn Purvis claims, “Scientists have recently determined that it takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain- unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10-20 repetitions.” A synapse is the physical pattern that is left in the brain that indicates something is fully learned. This provocative thought I believe is worth all of us involved in a child’s life to stop and reflect on how we present the world around us to our children and students. The natural world, history, stories, arts, sports, and math are all fascinating in and of themselves. Let’s let our next generation spend meaningful time exploring their interests in play. Structure their world so that they can entertain themselves in creative ways and not be dependent on devices to keep them occupied and watch their skills and knowledge blossom as well as their self-esteem, independence, and joy for life.
Have a wonderful summer break! We look forward to seeing our Crew again in August!!!
We are Pine Lane! We are Crew!
