July 2024 Activities
FRENCH SUMMER CAMP
The students of French Elementary School had a fantastic 2-week summer camp where they participated in various engaging STEM activities. In the first week, they took part in STEM experiments such as creating new colors, making exploding sidewalk chalk, and conducting colorful flower experiments. They also tested their knowledge by constructing different shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows and demonstrated their engineering skills by building a spaghetti bridge. They also identified various scents hidden in a jar to challenge their sense of smell. The week ended with the students making homemade ice cream, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
During the second week, the students had the opportunity to construct their own catapults, design and build their own cars, and challenge themselves to build the tallest tower using cups. They also explored Osmo, a platform that combines physical and digital learning through interactive games and activities, using augmented reality and a tablet. The summer camp ended with the students engaging in a thrilling escape room adventure, showcasing their problem-solving skills. They also crafted beautiful necklaces and enjoyed a delightful ice cream treat. As a parting gift, each student received a bag filled with essential school supplies and captivating books.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Our team had an amazing time at the Touch-A-Truck event hosted by DeWitt County. We were thrilled to be able to provide free books to the community and sign children up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. It was incredibly rewarding to interact with children of different ages and match them with books that suited their grade level and reading interests.
Additionally, we are proud to be regular participants in the Cuero Downtown Farmer's Market, where we set up every fourth Saturday of the month. At the market, we engage with parents about dialogical reading, providing them with literature that emphasizes the importance of reading to their children daily. We also encourage children to pick out books that interest them and offer parents more detailed information about our Early Learning Program. We're looking forward to the next market on Saturday, August 24th from 9-11 and we'd love for you to join us to learn more.
EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM:
In July, the Early Learning Program held a short but wonderful month of activities. We were able to engage in shaving cream shape art, wildflower planting, bubble counting, and imaginative play. Parents and children joined in for story time, sing-along songs, dancing, and building relationships with peers. We were also excited to welcome the newest addition, baby brother Liam! Our last class ended on a sweet note with vanilla ice cream cups!
Our next class will be on Wednesday, September 4th as we are currently working on upgrades, lesson planning, and staff development. Please watch for updates and community events.
BOOK DISTRIBUTION & COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
Cuero ISD is committed to promoting literacy and a love for reading among all members of the community. As part of this effort, the district offered free books to families visiting the Cuero Medical Clinic and Parkside Family Clinic. The initiative was a great success, and families were thrilled to have access to a wide range of age-appropriate books. The bookshelves in the waiting rooms were stocked with a variety of books ranging from 0 to pre-K level, providing families with plenty of options to choose from. The district also offered families the opportunity to register for the Imagination Library and sign up for information about the Cuero ISD Early Learning Program.
Several different community outreach efforts were undertaken to promote literacy and education. The distribution of books, book markers, and the provision of an opportunity to sign up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library are effective ways to inculcate a love for reading and learning among students. Such initiatives can have a positive impact on the overall development of children and their academic progress.
Overall, the book distribution program was a great success, and we are proud to be able to provide free resources to families in our community. Over books 1,370 were distributed during the month of Julyfor children and their families to start or add to their very own personal library!
