October 3, 2022
Dear Skokie Families:
We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend. As a reminder, there will be no school on Wednesday, October 5th. We look forward to seeing everyone next week for Parent Teacher conferences!
Kinetic Wellness
Kinetic wellness classes are off to a great start! Most students have come to class prepared with gym shoes and water bottles. We do require that all students wear proper gym shoes in order to participate in KW. Sixth graders are also required to wear a KW uniform or change of clothes. Remember to bring warm clothing for KW as the weather is getting colder! An extra sweatshirt, sweatpants, gloves, etc. All KW clothing should be separate from clothing worn to/from school and during the school day. We apologize for the delay some families have experienced in receiving KW clothing from our vendor. We hope to receive the final delivery in early October.
Our current KW activities are badminton, kickball, blamball, and football. The skills we are working on during these activities include:
Badminton: grip, serving, forehand, backhand, rules and game play
Kickball/Blamball: kicking, striking, catching, pitching, rules and game play
Football: throwing, receiving, running routes, basic rules and game play
Sixth Grade After School Sports started Wednesday, September 28th and 5th Grade After School Sports started on Thursday, September 29th. The first session of Climbing Club will run Tuesdays, October 11, 18 and 25. All activities run from 3:35-4:30pm.

2022 Downsized Capital Improvement Plan: Referendum
As a member of The Winnetka Public School community, we want to ensure you are informed about the improvements to all five schools as part of the 2022 Downsized Capital Improvement Plan: Referendum, which was adopted as a resolution by the School Board on August 16th and will be on the ballot November 8th. You are invited to attend an upcoming informational session, in person or via Zoom. Please see the image below for further information, or visit our website at www.winnetka36.org.
Panorama SEL Survey
The Panorama Student SEL Survey will be administered in grades K-8 between October 3-7th, 2022 as part of our District-wide strategic plan goal to support SEL which is explained below:
Positive Culture & Well Being:
A culture of positive well-being amongst students, staff and community serves as a catalyst for continual growth. Relationships and understanding of others are prioritized to promote educational excellence, equity, and resilience. Understanding personal identities and self-awareness is used to facilitate better connections in an increasingly complex world.
The surveys will provide data to help inform our efforts to support the well-being of all students, teachers and staff.
Teachers in K-2 will complete the Teacher’s Perceptions of Student’s SEL for each of their students. Based on this year’s goals, the survey focuses on four areas: Grit, Self Management, Emotional Regulation, and Engagement.
Students in grades 3-8 will complete the two survey modules during their advisory/meeting time. We are administering this survey as part of our District-wide goal to support SEL for all students. Based on this year's goals, the survey focuses on seven areas: Emotional Regulation, Self Management, Grit, Sense of Belonging, Engagement, School Climate and School Safety.
All staff will take the Panorama Teacher and Staff Survey. The staff and teacher survey focuses on five areas: Wellbeing, Belonging, SEL Professional Learning, School Climate, and Efficacy.
Sincerely,
Michelle Cooney and Larry Joynt
