Summer 2024 Edition

Dear Valued Heritage Families,

I hope this message finds you and your families enjoying your summer!

We are working hard on our end getting everything ready for the upcoming school year. We are thrilled as we merge our two schools into one Heritage! In August, we will send out a newsletter with more information about the upcoming year. In this edition, I wanted to take a moment to send a quick message with a few updates and reminders.

Some important dates to keep in mind:

August 2: The WSD Parent Portal opens and teacher welcome letters will be emailed out
August 8: PTA Pool Party with the Principals from 7-9 p.m. (Splash Station)
August 9: The WSD Transportation Department emails out bus route information
August 10: The WSD Back to School Fair at Liberty High School from 8-11a.m.
August 14: Meet the Teacher Night K-5 from 5-7 p.m.
August 19: First Day of School
August 26: Kindergarten "Signing Day" and supply drop off along with Popsicles with the Principals from 5-6:15 p.m.

Your New Heritage Assistant Principals

K-1st AP

Hello Heritage Families, My name is Valerie Sutton and I am one of the assistant principals at Heritage Elementary School. I hope you are having a great summer, I am looking forward to a great school year and meeting you in August. This will be my second year at Heritage, last school year I was a second grade teacher at Heritage Primary. This will be my 13th year as an educator, previously I was an instructional coach and spent 8 years in the classroom.

I am married to my husband Dan and we have 2 kids, Abby who is 12 and Evan who will be 2 in August. Abby will be a 7th grader and Evan is enjoying daycare until he can go to school. We love to spend time together and do fun activities outside.

2nd-3rd AP

My name is Katie Will. I will be one of the assistant principals at Heritage Elementary this year. I live with my husband Brad and our four kids. Wyatt is going into 5th grade, Sophia is going into 3rd grade, Scarlett will be starting kindergarten and Savanna is in her last year of preschool. The past 18 years I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. I love to read books, spend time outdoors, go to the zoo with my kids and take our black lab, Gunner, for walks.

I hope that you all have been enjoying your summer and relaxing. I am so excited to start a new adventure with you. This is going to be an amazing year with lots of new learning, adventures and fun!

4th-5th AP

My name is Melrick Bogier and I am excited to join the administrative team and staff to continue the amazing work at Heritage Elementary. I have worked as a fourth grade teacher, music teacher, math curriculum specialist, and mentor teacher leader Saint Louis Public School District. The class motto I have always used in my classroom: “It is ok to not know...but it is not ok to not try!”

A little about me - first, in 2016, I married my wonderful wife Stacy and we have 3 children and 2 dogs - Pierre and Honey! Finally, my oldest son and his wife gave birth to our first grandchild, Audrey Rose, in February 2024.

PTA Events

District Back to School Fair

The WSD plans to host the 14th Annual Back to School Fair for District families on Saturday, August 10, from 8-11 a.m. at Liberty High School. The event is intended to get school supplies in the hands of WSD students who need them the most.

The event is free for District families and will feature dozens of vendors, free school supplies, games and fun activities for children. At last year's event, we distributed over $10,000 worth of school supplies to WSD students. In addition, MOChip will be on hand to provide free child identification kits.

While the event is free, families are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Operation Food Search, which serves local families in need. For more information, visit the WSD website.

Support at Home

WSD offers At-Home Reading Support ideas and activities to our families. Please click the link to access activities that you and your child can do at home to support their reading goals. Together, we can make a big impact on your child's reading achievement and overall success!

Focus School Software Coming Soon

In case you missed it, we're Transitioning from SIS K-12 to Focus School Software. Next year, tasks such as completing forms, viewing grades, and checking lunch balances will be done on the Focus School Software platform rather than on Tyler SIS K-12. Here's a quick update on what you need to know. Be on the lookout for additional information coming soon!

At Heritage, we have a variety of ways that we communicate our information. Each month we will send out the Heritage Happenings via email. Your classroom teacher will also provide a weekly update specific to your child's classroom.
