Husky E-News
October 27, 2024
From the Principal
Hillendale families,
I hope you are having a great weekend! Over the next two weeks we have many exciting events including our Student Council's Spirit Week (week of 10/28) Halloween Parade scheduled for 9:30 AM on 10/31 and our Husky Hustle taking on a new format this year during school on 11/4! Please have your children wear sneakers and clothes they can exercise in outdoors on 11/4.
With Halloween events around the corner, please remember that, although we recognize that you may wish to celebrate your experience or the experience of your child and their classmates on social media, as you take photographs and post them to your personal social media accounts, please be mindful that our parents have varying perspectives when it comes to privacy. It is kind to have conversations with your peers and to refrain from posting others’ children until you have their parents’ consent!
We will have a "Lockdown" drill this week within the SRP Framework. I encourage you to talk to your children about lockdowns at school. Please reach out if you ever need help or guidance.
As a reminder, school will be closed on Friday, 11/1 and Tuesday, 11/5.
Have a great week!
Joshua Leight

Halloween Parade
On Thursday, 10/31, we will hold our annual Halloween parade at 9:30 AM. This is earlier than last year as the elementary schools alternate times to support our families with students in pre-first and our special programs. Please see several important details and reminders below:
- Students should wear their costumes to school even if they ride the bus. Students may bring a change of clothes for after the parade.
- Costumes should be school appropriate - no weapons or excessively scary costumes are allowed. Masks and hats are allowed as part of costumes.
- All families should plan to be at HES to park by 9:05 AM.
- Volunteers will be out to assign a parking area to each car that enters our grounds starting at 8:55 AM. We will fill our grassy field east of our playground with all families that are dropping off their children for morning arrival and then fill our main lot and K-1 lot in that order. Most families will be assigned a spot in the grassy field. Once you have parked, plan to remain on campus until the conclusion of the parade.
- Parking is also available on Hillendale Rd and on Hickory Hill Rd. at your own discretion. Please refrain from parking on Banjo’s Trail or in surrounding neighborhoods.
- Our parade will consist of one lap around our lower trail.
- Families will be asked to stand in an assigned area based on their children’s grade level that will be clearly marked. This will give our students people to wave and smile to throughout their walk as opposed to solely in the beginning/end of the parade. If you have multiple children at HES, please stand in whichever grade level area you would prefer. HES staff will be out to assist families to find a location to watch the parade.
- In the event of inclement weather, a decision regarding the parade will be communicated on Halloween morning by 8:30 AM. If the parade must be cancelled it will not be rescheduled.
- PM Kindergarten will hold a parade starting in the LGI at 1:15 PM.
- Clearances are not required to attend the parade.
- Please view the attached map to visualize our parade set-up.

All funds go directly to the Hillendale PTO to support teacher grants, classroom supplies and furniture, and grade level programs. All students who raise $50 or more will receive a prize! Additional prize awarded for the highest fundraising student per grade! To set up your fundraising page, go to Husky Hustle (99pledges.com) Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to "Add participant" and complete participant's information.

Volunteer Opportunities
🐾Volunteer During Library Class
Are you interested in helping during your child's 1st-5th grade library class? Library volunteers will help our Librarian check-in books as the children drop them off, put them back on the shelves, help kids to select books, and finally to check-out the new books.
We are doing a trial run of our new sign-up system from October 7th until Winter Break. Please review the expectations for volunteering before signing up.
Send any concerns or issues to Janette Grieb at janettepgrieb@gmail.com
