PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
We begin March with Trimester 2 (T2) Parent/Teacher Conference Week right around the corner. The Parent/Teacher Conference is one of our best opportunities to connect together, learn about our children’s academic progress and social/emotional development, and discover the best ways to assist with learning at home. Our goal is always to hold conferences with 100% of our parents. If you haven't found a conference time that works with you and your teacher's schedule, don't give up! Parents and teachers teaming together provide a team that fosters student success, and conferencing together is a big part of that.
March also brings with it the last trimester of 2023-2024. It's a time calling for Perseverance and Integrity from all members of the school community as we enter the last trimester of learning and the season of assessments for students to show what they have learned this year.
We greatly value our continued partnership with our parents, as we know it's the recipe for student success! We thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Tina Croes

ANNUAL READING INCENTIVE
Annual TK-5 Reading Incentive Program is Here!
Boulder Creek’s Annual TK-5 Reading Incentive kicked off on Friday, March 1st! This year’s reading theme is “Reading Olympics.” The program runs for four weeks and will conclude on Friday, March 29th. Starting Friday, March 1st, students can begin recording their nightly reading minutes on their classroom Reading Olympics Reading Logs. Each Thursday evening, students and parents will calculate the total minutes read for the week and complete the Reading Olympics digital reading log. Get the link from your classroom teacher or click on the link HERE. Throughout the four weeks of the reading incentive, students will have the opportunity to qualify for activities and prizes if they meet their reading goals.
What are our reading goals?
TK-3 Students need to read at least 100 minutes per week to qualify for activities and prizes.
4-5 Students need to read at least 150 minutes per week to qualify for activities and prizes.
TK and Kindergarten parents, reading to your TK and kindergarten child counts toward reading minutes.
Thank you so much for supporting our school’s readers.
MARCH READING INCENTIVE - READING OLYMPICS!
Billy Bear is back and needs our students help with training for the Reading Olympics! Students who strive to meet their weekly reading goals also motivate Billy to read more too!

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES, March 18th - 22nd
Parent/Teacher Conference Week is coming up March 18th - 22nd. Teachers will begin scheduling conferences with parents very soon if they haven't already.
Middle school grades will be conducting student-led conferences with the exception of some mandatory teacher-led conferences. Homeroom teachers will be on hand during student-led conferences to answer questions should you have them. Middle school teachers will reach out to their parents to schedule either a student-led or teacher-led conference with you.
The best way to help your child with his/her success in school is to play an active role along with the classroom teacher. We look forward to sharing your child’s second-trimester progress during conference week.
7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
Many of you have asked, “What are these ‘7 Habits’ my child keeps talking about at home?” It’s a great question! Every day your children are learning the 7 Habits framework. These are tools and skills for developing into young leaders. If your kids are talking about the Habits at home, that means these helpful tools are sticking, even beyond the classroom! Celebrate this with them! Below are highlights and conversation starters for Habits 1-3.
HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE
Habit Highlight - Habit 1
The first habit of effective young leaders is BE PROACTIVE. Your student is learning that they are in charge of their choices, and what they choose to do impacts their life. Being proactive with good choices helps create the life they want to live.
Habit at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: What is your favorite chore? How does it help your family?
2nd-3rd: When was the last time you tried something new? What was it?
4th+: How are you pursuing your dreams and goals right now?
HABIT 2: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND
Habit Highlight - Habit 2
Our second habit encourages students to BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND. If they are being proactive (Habit 1) without a clear goal, they might just be spinning their wheels. Defining goals and having a plan help get the results we want!
Habit at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: If you could be granted just one wish, what would you wish for?
2nd-3rd: If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be?
4th+: If your life was a book, what would it be titled? How would the book end?
HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST
Habit Highlight - Habit 3
Our students are learning that leaders PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST. Habit 1 says, “I am in charge of me.” Habit 2 says, “I have clear priorities, purposes, and plans for my life.” Habit 3 says, “I have the discipline to carry out my priorities, purposes, and plans.” With so much competing for our attention today, Habit 3 is more important than ever.
Habit at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: What would your perfect day consist of?
2nd-3rd: If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?
4th+: If you could only keep a small backpack full of possessions, what would you keep?

WHAT IS TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN?
2024-2025 REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW
Welcome to Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Boulder Creek!
California has made Transitional Kindergarten (TK) universally available (although not required). The curriculum and approach in TK are designed to bridge the gap between preschool and elementary school, providing an extra year to acquire kindergarten readiness.
Children who turn 4 years old by June 2, 2024 are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Note: Students who turn 4 between between June 3rd and September 2, 2024 are considered Early TK (ETK). ETK students may be enrolled in a TK program depending on available space and readiness.
Children who turn 5 years old on or before September 2, 2024 are eligible for Kindergarten.

PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning of the year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140 or email our Student Services Clerk, Devin McComas, at dmccomas@eesd.net. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
