Each class (K-8) spent time this morning designing a rocket catcher. Teams of 2-4 students built a device to help a falling rocket land vertically without crashing using simple and readily available materials.
Inspired by real-world reusable rocket landings, this project was designed to challenge students' creativity and problem solving skills. Our students tested and reworked their designs several times. Each class sent their best design to the big finale.
Our Preschool and PreKindergarten students discussed space travel in class and designed their own rockets to fly. Some were very colorful and full of flair.
To conclude our morning, we all gathered together in the gymnasium to share our rockets and our rocket catcher designs. It was fun to celebrate each other and see the uniqueness of each design. Each class had an opportunity to test their design in front of our school audience. Two classes were successful in multiple rocket catches - but there can only be one winner! The class with the highest successful drop and catch is KINDERGARTEN!
All students should be proud of their projects and the thought that was put behind each component. Some of today's best inventions were formed from failure!
