PRINCIPAL PENOYER'S WEEKLY MESSAGE
Ahoy, Patriot Families!
We are nearing the end of our first full week of the 24-25 school year. We've been busy getting to know each other, having fun and setting expectations for a great year ahead. We have welcomed an incredible bunch of new Patriots. Thank you for choosing our wonderful Liberty!
EXCITING NEWS!! Liberty won FIRST PLACE in the CARING4COMMUNITY contest put on by General Dentistry 4 Kids! $2,500 will be donated to our school. Thank you to all those who voted for Liberty during the window. Our hard work paid off!!
This past week, the school enjoyed a fabulous PBIS assembly from Jim Basketball Jones. He spoke of our STARS expectations all while engaging students and showing off his remarkable basketball skills. A BIG THANK YOU to our Liberty PTO for funding this awesome PBIS kick-off assembly!
During the school year we monitor the weather to determine when it is appropriate to make adjustments to our recess periods. Variables such as temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation play a significant role with regards to children's safety and comfort levels. Our goal is to get students outside to play during recess whenever it is possible. At times, we may instead have indoor recess. We make this judgment call each day just prior to recess time as our Arizona weather can shift swiftly. With inclement weather, play opportunities vary and may include a variety of activities. Students may watch portions of a movie. Any movies shown during recess will hold a G or TV-Y rating.
A reminder that our Curriculum Night is next Tuesday, August 13th for Grades 1-6, Honors, Specialized/Structured. There will be two sessions: Session 1 4:45pm-5:15pm, Session 2 5:30pm-6:00pm. Our Reading Specialist will also be holding an information session on the Science of Reading. Check out the flyer below.
Sail on and enjoy your day!

DROP OFF AND PICK UP ROUTINES
This week gave our families the opportunity to see our morning drop-off/afternoon pick-up routines. We've made it through the confusions and we should be good to go as the year proceeds.
A few reminders for each:
Morning Drop-Off:
1. Please stop at the POLE THAT SAYS STOP when dropping your child off at the back lot. Do not drop your child off in the middle of the parking lot. Cars are parking, backing out and driving through, so this is not a safe space for student drop off. It also holds up the line for the cars who are following expectations. You may pull into a spot to release your child from the car.
2. Please do not pull into the car driveway off of Marilyn St. in the mornings. Students are walking in this area.
Afternoon Pick-Up:
1. Thank you for you patience. We have twice as many students doing car pick up this year. We have kept it at about 25 minutes this week. Our goal (and we always get there!) is 15 minutes. How you can help? Have your yellow/gold card with your child's first/last name and grade level written REALLY BIG! Hold it up so we can see. We will learn all the cars soon, but this helps us move the line along quicker until that time comes.
2. We do allow back parking and pick up. If you don't want to wait in the line of cars, please park in the back lot, cross at the crosswalk and meet your child at the walker release gate.
3. We are working as hard and as fast as we can. We want to get your child (and us!) out of the heat/humidity as quickly as possible! Thank you again for your kind words!
**We recognize that our parking is limited and families need to utilize the community streets and crosswalks. Please do not ask your child to cross the middle of Marilyn or 52nd Street to meet you. Escort them and/or use the crosswalks! I have submitted our annual request for an additional parking lot to be built next to the school on 52nd St. I am hopeful that this is the year it gets approved.**
