Proctor tabbed winner of 56th annual Red Haven Award
A historic streak and a lengthy drought came to an end at The Edge last week when the Anderson Noon Exchange Club held its 56th annual Red Haven Award ceremony. Spencer Proctor of Anderson High School was named the winner from another group of highly qualified candidates, snapping a three-year run of Frankton winners and bringing the trophy back to South Madison Avenue for the first time since 2013 when Matt Harter was the winner...more.
Tenth Street Elementary School named as a recipient of the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries Grant
Tenth Street Elementary School was one of 200 schools from 40 states across the country to receive a $5,000 grant through the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries. This year, the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded $1 million in library grants.
The grant at Tenth Street was written and will be managed by Mrs. Stacy Eddinger, the school’s Librarian. The funds from the grant will be used to purchase picture and chapter books for various heritage months to teach about different cultures. She will also be adding books about specific animals, technology, space, dinosaurs, literature, poetry, and biographies...more.
Readers Theatre Program at Erskine Elementary School
Last week 1st grade students at Erskine Elementary School, as part of their new Readers Theatre program led by Mrs. Misty Bowers in collaboration with specials teachers, presented a play about the book The Hungry Caterpillar. Students in Kindergarten performed in the afternoon. This program is made possible through a generous donation made to the Anderson Federation of Teachers on behalf of Team Green Law and Attorney Max Howard.
Signing Day event at the D26 Career Center
The District 26 Career Center held a Signing Day event where they recognized 29 seniors who have made commitments to either enroll in a trades program, enlist in the military, or enter full-time employment after graduation. Congratulations to these students and thank you to our industry partners for being a part of this exciting day!
Top-20 Students in the AHS Class of 2024 honored
The Top-20 students in the 2024 graduating class at Anderson High School were honored recently at a special banquet hosted by the Anderson Education Foundation. Each student was asked to invite their most influential educator and they, too, were honored at the program which took place in the Cafeteria at Anderson High School.
ACS Retirement Class of 2024 recognized for their service
Last week we held our annual ceremony to honor retirees of Anderson Community Schools at the Tanglewood Conference Center. We honored six individuals with a combined 181 years of service:
- Kathryn Womack-States, 30 years
- Dr. Val Scott, 23 years
- Nancy Lees, 28.5 years
- Carol Phillips, 25 years
- Sharon Bryant, 37.5 years
- Janet Windlan 37 years
We are so appreciative for their years of service and dedication to Anderson Community Schools!
Brown advances to state
Despite a fifth-place finish, Anderson’s Tremayne Brown qualified for next week’s state finals in the high jump Thursday at the Pike regional. Brown’s leap of 6-foot-4 met the state standard, sending the senior back to Bloomington. He placed on the podium as a sophomore but missed his junior season with an injury...more.
Former AHS student honored for work, life-saving care at the school
On the first day of this school year, a teacher went into cardiac arrest near Chamberlain’s room. She saw the principal performing chest compressions so she got the defibrillator started. Together, they were able to regain a pulse until emergency medical personnel arrived. Because of her fast action that day, and her work to build Anderson’s athletic training program, Chamberlain was chosen as a finalist for the Henry Schein Medical's Athletics and Schools Rising Star Award...more.
2024 Summer Camps
We are so pleased to partner with a variety of organizations to provide summer programming for our students. We have compiled a list on our website of summer programming being offered by Anderson Community Schools and other organizations in and around Anderson. We will continue to add new programs to this list as they become available.
ACS Summer Lunch Program
Our Food Services Department is hosting a Summer Lunch Program June 10th - July 19th, 2024 at Anderson High School. All kids 18 and under can eat lunch for free Monday - Friday between 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. Children, accompanied by an adult, should enter Door #1 at Anderson High School and proceed to the Cafeteria. Lunch must be eaten in the Cafeteria. There are no "grab and go" or "to go" meals. Adult meals and a la cart items are not available for purchase.
