MPVA Weekly Update
April 15 - 19 ,2024
Dear Parents and Students,
This Tuesday, April 16, our students will take the 2024 STAAR Reading Assessment. On Thursday, April 18, we will administer the 2024 STAAR Science Assessment to our 8th grade students taking Science, and to our Accelerated Science students in 7th grade. Our 8th grade students taking Integrated Physics & Chemistry (IPC) will not be taking the STAAR Science test.
The campus will be closed for visitors on days we are testing. Students will not have access to their cell phones. In an emergency please call the school directly to leave a message for your student.
Please help us help our students achieve their best possible academic outcomes by encouraging a good night's sleep, motivating them to do their very best, making sure they arrive on time to school, and making sure they bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged.
STAAR Dates:
- April 16 - Reading
- April 18 - Science
- April 24 - Social Studies
- May 1 - Math
Finally, 8th grade parents, please make sure to read the updates for the 8th Grade End of Year Events. That information is located below under "PTO Updates". The end of their middle school years is just around the corner!
Wishing all our students taking the STAAR this week our very best!
Respectfully,
Mr. Sarabia
Academics are the mind of our school. Athletics are the heart of our school. Arts are the soul of our school. #WeAreMPVA
MPVA Updates
No Place For Hate
MPVA is a "No Place For Hate" (NPFH) school. As we worked towards recertification again this year, our Broadcast Journalism students entered a video into a contest sponsored by NPFH.
Please congratulate the following students on winning 1st Place in the No Place for Hate for video category. A huge congratulations to Mrs. Arlt and her Broadcast Journalism students: Ezra Scott, Sophia Sorena, Rivers Terry, Jeremiah Price, Isabella Axcell, and Aaron Guzman.
Visitors Window
Just a friendly reminder that, in an effort to avoid classroom disruptions, we kindly request that parents refrain from dropping off lunch, including outside food such as Chick-fil-A, McDonald's and etc. at the Visitor's Window during school hours. We encourage you to send your students with their lunches in the mornings or allow them to participate in the free HISD hot lunch provided in the cafeteria.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in creating a smooth learning environment.
Attendance Appeals
Attendance appeal hours were due on March 22, 2024. Students who have not completed their recovery time are encouraged to continue until all hours are completed.
We are in the process of notifying students who have recovery time during the second semester of school.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact D.Bolden (Counselor), K.Moody (Counselor), B. Perez (Wraparound Specialist), and Silva Alvarado (Attendance Clerk).
Respectfully,
The Attendance Committee
Parent Summit
Greetings!
The Office of Special Education Services is hosting its annual Parent Summit on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in the West Division. This year’s theme, “Walking Through It Together,” is centered around growing and maintaining strong relationships with our parents and community.
The Princess Code
The Princess Ball is coming soon! Please contact Ms. M. Jordan, marsita.jordan@houstonisd.org, or Ms. Perez-Williams, Brittany.WilliamsPerez@houstonisd.org, with any questions or contributions!
World Autism Month
April is World Autism Month, which was founded in April 1970 by Bernard Rimland, Ph. D., a psychologist and autism researcher. He chose the month of April to coincide with his son's birthday, as well as the start of springtime for new beginnings.
This month, we will celebrate inclusivity on our campus and support World Autism Month by wearing blue on Fridays.
