Letter from the Principal
Dear Middle School Parents and Staff,
As we reach the end of another school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on our collective journey and express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. This year has been filled with growth, learning, and numerous accomplishments, and none of it would have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of our wonderful community.
To our incredible staff, thank you for your tireless efforts, creativity, and commitment to providing an enriching and supportive learning environment for our students. Your passion for education and your genuine care for each child’s well-being and academic progress have made a profound impact.
To our devoted parents, your partnership has been invaluable. Your involvement in your children’s education, whether through supporting homework, participating in school events, or collaborating with teachers, has played a crucial role in their success. Your trust and cooperation have been the foundation of a thriving school community.
Together, we have navigated challenges and celebrated many successes. We have seen our students grow not just academically, but also in their confidence, resilience, and character. These achievements are a testament to the strong bond between our staff, parents, and students.
As we look forward to a well-deserved summer break, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy quality moments with family and friends. Let’s return in the fall with renewed energy and enthusiasm, ready to embrace new opportunities and continue our journey of learning and growth.
Thank you once again for being an essential part of our school community. Wishing you all a safe, happy, and restful summer!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Fernandes
Principal

8th Grade Promotion and Dance
It’s hard to believe that the school year is almost over. With the school year ending comes an exciting time with 8th grade promotion.
The 8th grade promotion ceremony and dance will be held at Pioneer on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024, starting at 4:30pm. The promotion ceremony will be in the gym with the dance following in the cafeteria. The dress code for the promotion ceremony requires 8th graders to dress as if they were going on a job interview. Students may wear a nice pair of pants and a dress shirt with a collar – no jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts or sagging pants. Sport jackets and ties are nice but not required. Students may wear a nice skirt and blouse, dress or pants outfit – no shorts, short skirts or too revealing dresses, please. This is not a formal occasion, so we ask that students not wear tuxedos or formals.
We know that families are eager to celebrate 8th grade promotion, but we must ask that you keep parent/family attendance to a minimum so that we abide by fire code. We ask that each 8th grader have three or fewer guests attend so that we do not exceed code limits. Also, please do not bring balloons to promotion as it blocks the view of others.
Below is a schedule on Tuesday, June 11th to help promotion run smoothly; please have your student arrive on time.
9:00-11:00am Rehearsal practice for promotion
11:10am 8th grade students dismissed (bus transportation is provided home)
4:00pm Students return to school (no transportation)
4:30pm Promotion ceremony begins: 8th grade dance begins when promotion ends for Pioneer students only - no outside guests
7:30pm Dance concludes, please arrange to have your child picked up promptly (no transportation is provided)
Our Last Academic Update for the Year: What's Happening in Social Studies
6th Grade Social Studies
Students in Social Studies 6 have been learning about ancient Rome during the last part of our semester together. Lately, much of our effort has been focused on completing our Classroom-Based Assessment (CBA). This is a project that requires students to do some research about a historical topic. In Mr. Madsen’s class the focus of this project was Julius Caesar while in Ms. Martin’s class, the focus was Roman innovations. We hope the information we covered throughout the semester will have a positive impact on our students as they develop a greater understanding of the past as well as the world we live in today. We wish everyone a great summer off and we look forward to seeing everyone next year as 7th graders!
7th Grade Social Studies
7th grade students have been learning about Washington’s history and government by researching Washington events that impacted history. They created and presented their own projects to demonstrate their understanding of the topics they specifically researched. The year is wrapping up quickly but there is still a little more Washington State history to learn.
8th Grade Social Studies
US history classes are finishing their unit on the Civil War looking at the turning point in the war: July 1863 and explaining how the Civil War has impacted the US today.
