A message from Mr. Ryder
Dear Overlook Families,
We’ve had an amazing start to the school year! Our Overlook Grizzlies are doing a great job learning routines and expectations for safety, kindness, and responsibility. I’ve enjoyed visiting classrooms and reading aloud, witnessing our students' excitement for learning and their eagerness to share.
Our 4th graders are stepping up to help their peers, assisting with announcements, and guiding preschoolers to their classes. Our butterfly garden is continuing to thrive with new plants, and the students are enjoying the stepping stones as the go to their bus!
I understand that a new school year can bring transitions for both students and families. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me, our school counselor, or your child's teacher. We’re here to help!
Thank you for your support of Overlook Elementary.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryder, Principal

COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND NAMING CHALLENGE
We're excited to invite you to help us name the new community playground that is replacing the former Kaleidoscope Playground. While we've been using "Destination Playground" as a temporary name during the design and construction phases, we want to hear ideas from Wadsworth residents and students before choosing a final name. The playground features the match theme and much of the equipment is in Wadsworth red. A link to a short fly-through video prepared by the City's playground equipment installer can be found HERE. It does a great job of depicting what the playground will look like once complete. Please share your suggestions by completing the short survey HERE by Friday, September 13. Thank you for your participation!
Contacting Mrs. Jira
Our secretary, Mrs. Jira, is the contact person for calling off your student and any change of dismissal plans throughout the day. Please call the attendance line at 330-335-1424 and leave a message with any changes BEFORE school starts. If you need to make changes after 9:00 am, please call the main line at 330-335-1420. We recommend you let Mrs. Jira and your child's teacher know when your student will be absent, leaving early, or arriving late. Letting us know when your child will leave early allows us to be prepared for when you arrive. We ask that all end-of-the-day dismissal plans be made by 2:45 p.m. Thank you for your efforts!
**REMINDER- Mr. Ryder must approve all vacations AHEAD OF TIME. Please send him an email requesting excused absences. dryder@wadsworthschools.org
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Laino
In the coming weeks and months, I will present guidance lessons, read books, and have discussions with your child’s class on topics not always covered during language arts, math, science, and social studies. I will be visiting classrooms every other week for lessons.
I will also have small group activities with all grade levels throughout the school year, and check in on students individually as needed. If you would like your child to see me to check in or if an event arises where you feel they would benefit from talking to me please send a note to your child’s teacher, call or email me.
Should you think your child would benefit from school-based therapy, some counselors come into the building to see students weekly. Or if you think your child would benefit from outside counseling services I also have a list of local counseling agencies. If you would like further information on either of these options please reach out at any time.
If your child has any concerns e.g.: anxiety, changes in the home environment, loss of a loved one or pet, or anything else that you think may impact them in the school setting, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Also, if your family is in need, please let me know, and I will do my best to direct you to appropriate resources for your family. I can be reached at (330) 335-1420 or via email at blaino@wadsworthschools.org.
Weekender Assistance
If you are in need of food assistance please see the attachment. The purpose of the Weekenders program is to support elementary children in need by providing a bag of healthy food to eat over the weekend. If you are in need of food assistance please fill out this form and return it to Overlook Elementary or contact Mrs. Laino directly.
