Hello CMS Families,
Today we are talking Fly Up Day and forecasting for next year!
On Monday, March 3 from 9 a.m. to noon, 8th graders will participate in Fly Up Day, where they tour the high school they will attend next year. The goal of the day is to get students into their new school to learn about the many elective options they will have next year.
Permission slips were given to students on Tuesday. If you have not seen the permission slip, please have your student check their backpack for it. If your student has lost their permission slip, contact office manager Carolyn Lamberson at carolyn.lamberson@bend.k12.or.us for assistance. We will need permission slips in hand before students will be allowed to participate.
Next week, students will fill out their Passports outlining specific classes and programs they hope to visit on March 3.
Transportation will be provided to CMS students attending Summit, Caldera, Bend High, Bend Tech and Realms. If your student has been approved to attend another high school, such as Mountain View, on an Area Change Request, please touch base with our main office staff to discuss your transportation options.
On March 10 and 13, CMS 8th graders will participate in high school forecasting. Counselors from SHS, CHS, and BSHS will be on campus to talk with 8th graders about all things high school, from credits and attendance to graduation and choosing classes.
All CMS 6th and 7th graders will also be forecasting for their 2025-26 electives on March 10 and 13. Please look for your student to bring home elective descriptions and their Trail Guide, which they used during the electives presentation to take notes. The elective descriptions will also be emailed to you. Students will be entering their top six elective choices into the system on March 13. Please reach out to Dean of Students Leah Boon at leah.boon@bend.k12.or.us with specific questions.
As all of CMS will be forecasting on the same days, please remember that we will be on an adjusted assembly schedule. You can view it here. Please note: It is important that your student be in school during the forecasting sessions, from 1:23 to 2:09 p.m. on those days. If they have appointments outside of school that cannot be changed, please reach out to Ms. Boon at leah.boon@bend.k12.or.us.
Families of current 8th graders will have an opportunity to visit their student’s high school on March 10 starting at 6 p.m. All the non-magnet high schools – Bend, Summit, Caldera, Mountain View and La Pine -- will host open houses for incoming 9th graders on the same night. Families and students will be able to meet student leaders and staff, explore co-curricular programs and clubs, learn about high school forecasting and have some fun with their new communities.
Thank you,
Kristy Knoll
Assistant Principal
What is a CLIMB Card Winner?
Two years ago, student leaders at CMS came up with norms on what it means to be a Mountaineer at Cascade. The acronym CLIMB stands for students who are: Courageous, Leaders, Independent, Motivated, and create a Belonging feel to our school. Each week, CMS staff acknowledge the CLIMB characteristics by handing out CLIMB Cards that can be handed in to a larger drawing at the end of the week.
