Baseball
The Medford Mustang Baseball team finished with an 8-12 overall record & 7-7 in the Greater Boston League. The pitching from Medford helped keep the Mustangs in games with a team ERA of 3.15 lead by two Sophomores John Wright (1.53 ERA) & Travers Moodie (1.15 ERA).
John Wright led the team in wins (3) & innings pitched (41 innings). In four of his starts, he had 10+ strikeouts with his most against rival Malden with 13 strikeouts and winning the game 2-1. The Mustangs played in nine 1 run games and were competitive in every game they played this year. Our hitting was led by several players, Senior Captain Carsten Mangan hitting .296 tied with most doubles (5), Senior Captain Jack Lombardo .298, led the team in hits with (17), Junior Justin Marino led the team with most runs (16) tied with most doubles (5), led the team in most triples (4) and RBIs (14). Joe D'Orazio threw out 9 runners this year, which was the most for Medford in many years. Our Senior class Austin Price, Derek Marino, Ryan Slowe & Alex Giogas were big contributors for the team all year and went out with a 6-5 win over Newton South which was in honor of Kerri Kelley-Crohan. The players will always remember this game.
All-stars: Sophomore John Wright, Senior Captain Carsten Mangan
Crew
This past year was extremely successful for the rowing team. During the Fall season, we once again were chosen to be part of the Head of the Charles Regatta. This year we entered an Under 17 4+ boat with sophomores James Cluggish, Matt Stricker, James Sloan, Henrique Matos and freshman Henry Gregor. At the Massachusetts Public Fall State Championship, sophomore Sarah Youssef and freshman Sabina Li competed, and won a state championship in the girls varsity doubles race, giving the rowing team our first state championship since 2015.
During the Spring season, the team dedicated themselves qualifying for the Youth Nationals and Spring State Championship. Although we weren’t able to qualify for Youth Nationals, the team learned a valuable lesson which they brought with them for the rest of the season. Just as last Spring, the team had another successful season. At the Spring Championships, the team was able to medal in three races: the boys 1st novice 4, the boys varsity quad and the boys 3rd varsity 4, along with a few 4th place finishes. Over all, the team had a successful spring season. Which they will use to build upon over the summer and into the Fall
Boy's Lacrosse

All Stars: Roan Kennedy, Cam Scali, Vincent Castro, Cooper Su, Lucas Dyous-Goulden
MVP: Nathan Tremlett
Girl's Lacrosse
Girls lacrosse went 8-11 this season. Every field Varsity player was able to score at least one goal throughout the season. This season Becky Casey scored her 100th career goal as a sophomore. We wish our seven seniors the best of luck next year!

Softball
The Medford High varsity softball team celebrated a remarkable season, finishing with a 13-6 record and clinching the Greater Boston League (GBL) championship. The team was propelled by standout performances, notably from Sydney Conti, who hit three home runs and recorded an impressive 127 strikeouts. Alex Lombardo drove in 22 RBIs, while Joy Riccioli demonstrated her skills offensively and defensively. Defensively, Lorelai Davis , Emma Kiley, and Kaleigh Laidlaw were pivotal, anchoring the team's solid fielding. Behind the plate, Eve Masciave and Isla McInnis delivered clutch performances, contributing significantly to the team's success. The combination of powerful hitting, stellar pitching, and tight defense made this season one to remember for the Medford High varsity softball team.
All Stars: Sydney Conti, Lorelai Davis, Kaleigh Laidlaw and Joy Riccioli
Boy's Tennis
The Medford Mustangs tennis team had a rebuilding year in 2024. Having lost 4 starters to graduation and another 2 who decided not to return to the team, this squad leaned heavily on All League performer Leo Mantenuto and 1st year player, senior Tyler Taddia. Those two standouts led the way for this year's team, but a lack of depth and experience led to a 2-12 record.
Mantenuto had an exceptional season, losing only 2 matches. He also showed great leadership and commitment, earning his way into the captain's role. He also won Team MVP.
Freshman Zach Travers led a group of younger players, 3 of whom were 8th graders, and if this young nucleus can continue improving as they did in the 2024 season, there is reason to be optimistic about the future of Medford Mustang tennis.
All Star: Leo Mantenuto

Boy's Volleyball
Of course winning is the goal, but the true victory of a season is witnessing athletes thrive beyond the court. This is a true measure of the success of a season. If we measure success based on wins and losses alone, you would miss the heart and determination of the team. But you could find the heart in the many long and close games that required the team to dig deep and learn to trust each other. Team trust never comes easy, but they figured out how to persevere and prop one another up.
There were some standout players this year led by Co-Captain Ellis Vasquez. He had an all-star year with both offensive and defensive plays, game after game. Of course no player stands alone. The team had its foundation with consistent setting from Leo Fixon, leadership of the other Captains Hanson Shing and Fionnbahr MacEchern, and leadership from senior Joao Paizante.
Standout Freshman William Travers excelled in his first year playing volleyball. With all of these positive influences the example was set and the rest of the players rose to the challenge, coming on time and prepared to play day in and day out. This is what the team should be most proud of. The improvement made from all the players over the course of the season is reason to be excited about the future of the program.
All Star: Ellis Vasquez
