A. MacArthur Barr Mission Statement
Preparing and inspiring students to apply learning in a changing, complex, and interdependent world.
Curriculum & Instruction
Here at Barr MS, students are challenged to read everyday. Reading daily can be extremely effective in the long term and can help our kids learn about the world, develop imagination, become more empathetic, and enrich their vocabulary.
Students in Mrs. LoSardo's Social Studies class create "families" (seen above) to experience what it was like to travel Westward on the Oregon Trail. Students read a non fiction text and novel to understand what the pioneers faced each day on their journeys.
Our 8th grade Math students worked on point-slope forms to solve problems. The point-slope form is an equation of a line written using just one point on the line and the slope of the line.
Students recall their fondest memory of 8th grade and set goals to help them with a successful transition to the HS.
Playing instruments (as seen above) offers a multitude of benefits beyond musical growth. These include social benefits, communication skills, empathy and emotional expression, leadership and teamwork.
After breaking up cell walls and membranes, students use graduated cylinders, funnels, and cheesecloth to collect strawberry concentrate during a science lab.

Friday is MUFFIN DAY!
Violet Day
The Student Council enjoyed celebrating Violet Day after a month long fundraiser to benefit people with Down Syndrome. The children worked hard during a sports day, a cupcake sale, a sock and shirt sale and their culminating activities during Violet Day. After walking the building and completing figure eights on the field around Violet, the children ran to their stations to begin handing out decorative purple beads for everyone's Violet Pins. After the event, the Student Council members met Violet in the media center, where they practiced signing and talking with her, as they enjoyed donuts. Student Council members returned in the afternoon, to bag and deliver the beautiful violet cupcakes to everyone who purchased them. Violet Day 2024 was a real success!
Students and staff celebrate the 5th annual "Violet Day". Each year the Barr school community dresses in purple and begins the day with three laps around the building for Violet, Dr. Claudia Restiano's daughter. "Violet Day" presents an opportunity to raise both awareness for people living with down syndrome and funds for organizations that work on their behalf.
