Principal's Message
Dear BES families,
A huge round of applause for our incredible PTA! This year’s Jog-A-Thon was truly the "sweetest," thanks to the dedication of our PTA and amazing volunteers who made it a spectacular event.
Because of our school community's hard work and generosity, we reached our fundraising goal of $50,000! As a fun celebration, every student will have the chance to place a piece of tape on Mrs. Fortney and Ms. Chamberlain to stick them to the wall! Stay tuned for more details on this exciting event!
There are many events coming up at BES and around our BUSD community. Please see the flyers below for information including a fundraiser at Plume & Brew, a multicultural event, and the annual Daddy/Daughter Dance!
It's National School Counselor Week! We are so grateful for Ms. Dully and Ms. Newman for all of the care and support they provide our entire campus!
Please ensure that your information in Aeries is current and accurate. In the event of an emergency, such as a fire, it is critical that we can reach you promptly. This includes updating your phone numbers, email addresses, and emergency contacts. Additionally, please verify that you are receiving school communications through all available channels, including text messages, emails, and phone calls.
BUSD's third annual Art Show hosted by the Bonsall Women's Club is coming up on April 30th at Sullivan Middle School. Please see information below regarding entering student art work.
Please be sure that if your student brings a Smart Watch to school, they are either in "school mode" or they are kept in their backpack until school is over. Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Allison Fortney
Happy National School Counseling Week to Ms. Dully and Ms. Newman!

New Student Check-Out Procedure Starting Tuesday, January 7th
To enhance the learning environment and minimize disruptions, Bonsall Elementary School will implement a new student check-out process beginning Tuesday, January 7th.
We understand that students occasionally need to leave school early for appointments or other commitments. However, calling classrooms during instructional time to retrieve students can disrupt the learning process. To address this, we are introducing the following steps to streamline early check-outs:
Advance Notification:
Please notify the school office at least two hours prior to the desired check-out time.
For example, if your student needs to be checked out at 1:00 PM, please call no later than 11:00 AM.
Information to Provide:
When calling, please provide the following details:
Student’s full name
Student’s teacher
Check-out time
Reason for check-out
Whether the student will return to school that day
If your call is not answered, please leave a detailed voicemail with the above information.
Preparation for Check-Out:
A pass will be delivered to your student’s teacher, allowing them to prepare your child for departure. This ensures the student has their belongings, including backpacks and homework, ready at the designated time.
If the check-out occurs during lunch or recess, the student will still be prepared with the necessary items.
Final Steps at the Office:
The student will arrive at the office with the pass at the designated check-out time. Please continue to wait outside the office doors until you see your students walking toward the office.
Parents or guardians must present valid identification and sign the student release pass to complete the check-out process.
We believe this new procedure will help reduce interruptions to classroom learning while maintaining a smooth check-out experience. Our office staff is ready to assist BES families as we transition to this updated process. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office.
Thank you for your cooperation in supporting our students’ education.
Friendly Reminders
Please see below for some friendly reminders from our school staff.
- Please remember when you check out your student, kindly wait outside of the office until your student arrives. Often times, multiple students are being checked out at once and things can get hectic for our front office staff when there are too many people in the office. This is also a measure we take to protect student's personal information. We often have meetings taking place in our office conference rooms and the office conversations can be disruptive to these meetings. We appreciate your cooperation with this.
- You must have a CLEARED volunteer packet in order to work in your student's classroom. This includes a background check and a cleared TB test. You will need to be finger printed if you plan on attending a field trip off campus. If you have questions about volunteering, please call the front office.
- When you are volunteering, siblings are not permitted in the classrooms. This can be a distraction to other students' learning.
- If you plan on taking a vacation during the school year, please allow your child's teacher a 10 day notice to prepare work and get a study contract together.
Thank you for paying attention to these reminders and requests. Should you have any questions, please call the front office.
