Dear Career Tech Students and Families,

In the next three to four weeks, most of the students at Ford Tech will be taking a post-secondary credential test. It's crucial to emphasize the significance of putting in effort and energy into these tests, as they are not just checkpoints, but another chance to progress towards a career pathway.

By dedicating oneself, working hard, and focusing, one can use this earned credential as a stepping stone for a career in an industry they are passionate about. These passed exams will validate a student's expertise and competence in their chosen field. This is the time to be serious and end the school year with even more options.

What a week that Cybersecurity students had! 7 students that participated in the National Cyber League individual competition on April 5-7, 2024.

• Ahmed Hasan placed 125th out of 1164 high school participants and was ranked 4th in the Midwest Region
• Ian Kluger placed 265th out of 1164 high school participants and was ranked 6th in the Midwest Region
• Lillian Keniston placed 365th out of 1164 high school participants and was ranked 8th in the Midwest Region

These students will be competing in the group competition on April 19-21.

Additionally, we are receiving over $20,000 in donated equipment for the program from the City of Westland and Garden City Public Schools.

The Future Educator program provides a variety of Work-Based Learning opportunities for its students. In addition to the Sunshine and Rainbows Preschool, many of our Future Educator students have been employed at Bright Futures. Eastern Michigan University's Bright Futures is an after-school program available to Wayne Westland students. Our Future Educator students assist site coordinators with lesson planning, club activities, and program facilitation, contributing to the success of this valuable program.

Five students were selected as Legacy Project winners from William D. Ford Career Technical Center. These building Legacies was based on the many achievements to include academic performance, participation at school (activities, clubs, sports), honors and awards earned, and leadership/volunteer efforts. We couldn’t be more proud of them and appreciate all they do! Please congrat Aiden Parker (Fire/EMT), Jessica Guadalupe Cruz Jaramillo (Fire/EMT), Morgan Woodson (Sports Medicine & Exercise Science), Alyssa Fuller (Future Educators) and Filip Nowakowski (Auto Body Technology).

Work on the house that the Construction Tech II students are actively working on is progressing wonderfully. As May approaches and they prepare for their annual Open House on May 16. We are very proud of the hard work that is going into the house and are excited to share the progress. Thank you to Mr. Wood, Mr. Kelemen, and all of the City of Westland individuals who are guiding our students along this pathway. #edpathwaystosuccess #fordctc

Below you will find a list of 15 Scholarship Programs available to your students. More than 300 individual scholarships will be distributed through these 15 Programs. Students are eligible for all awards below:

1) Air Force Association Scholarships - $10,000 – 12 Awards (Deadline: April 30, 2024)

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

A) Be a dependent of an Active-Duty Guard, Reserve, veteran, or retired member of any service branch.

B) Be planning to enroll in a program of study at an accredited college or university in the Fall of 2024.

2) Nurse Corps Scholarship Program - $10,000 - 225 Awards (Deadline: May 2, 2024)

To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:

B) Plan on pursuing one of the following types of nursing programs: Diploma in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Nurse practitioner, or a Graduate level advanced registered nurse.

District Policy:

Wayne-Westland Schools prioritizes student attendance, student safety, and student support. Our District has implemented a comprehensive attendance policy that will identify barriers families face and provide support so that they may attend school regularly. Working with our community partners, our goal is to reduce chronic absenteeism at all grade levels.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.). They are also able to provide school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance. Please contact the Family Resource Center directly with any additional questions regarding their services.

3 v 3 Elementary Basketball Tournament Registration. This tournament is now open for all 4-12 grade students.

Take Charge of Your Internet: To ensure all students have the access they need, the State of Michigan is conducting a Broadband Mapping Challenge, which can help secure federal funds to expand quality broadband to homes in our district. Michigan residents can visit the website to check the map for their home address and submit necessary corrections to the state internet map.
