From Nurse Lindsey - Attention Parents of 5th Grade Girls Only!
I will conduct spinal screenings for 5th grade girls on 10/18/24 to check for abnormal curves of the spine. Scoliosis, a common spinal abnormality found in adolescents, is a sideways twisting of the spine. It is usually detected in children between 10 and 14 years of age. Kyphosis, sometimes called round back, is an exaggerated rounding of the upper back that is often confused with poor posture. Early treatment can prevent the development of a severe deformity.
The procedure for screening is simple. I will look at your child's back while she stands and then bends forward. For this exam, girls will be seen individually.
Bulky shirts must be removed so please have your student wear a sports bra, fitted tank top or a two piece swimsuit top underneath their shirt on exam day 10/18/24.
Parents will be notified of the results of the screening only if professional follow up is necessary. According to law, all girls in 5th grade are required to be screened. If you do not want your student screened you must provide a physician report of spinal screening within 60 days to the school nurse. Please look for a more in depth letter coming home with your 5th grade girl.
Thank you!
Nurse Lindsey

5th Grade Manner's Banquet - October 25th
Our annual 5th Grade Manner's Banquet is scheduled for Friday, October 25th. This is a very special event for 5th graders, and a great opportunity to practice table manners while enjoying a nice meal with their classmates. The students will have an opportunity before the banquet to learn a lesson on etiquette and table manners. The school nurse is aware of our student’s dietary restrictions, but if your child has a special need we may be unaware of, please contact Nurse Lindsey at 281-641-1548.
In order to make Manner's Banquet a success for our students, we need YOUR SUPPORT! We are looking for many volunteers to help with set up the evening before, decorating and final set up the morning of, serving during lunch, and clean up after the event. Volunteers can sign up using the Sign Up Genius link below. Parents who have volunteered to serve as wait staff will need to wear black pants/skirt and a white shirt, as we are trying to give the appearance of wait staff at a formal dinner. Only parents who sign up to volunteer are permitted during Manner's Banquet. There are NO LUNCH VISITORS on Friday, October 25th.
Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
5th Grade Team

Forgotten Items, Campus Visitors & Cafeteria Information
All visitors should use the front doors and check in with the WHE Front Office upon arrival to campus. Please be prepared to provide your identification/license to our receptionist when visiting WHE. All visitors must wear their WHE Visitor badge in a visible place while in the building, and must check out with the front office upon departure. Thank you for helping to keep our campus safe!
In order to maintain safety and not disrupt our learning environment, guests are only permitted to visit the specific area they have signed in for. This may include the main office, clinic, meeting rooms, cafeteria, or other designated areas. Visitors are not allowed on our playgrounds during recess, and may not visit classrooms or academic spaces without prior authorization from WHE administration. Thank you for helping to keep our campus safe!
Forgotten items and/or lunches can be dropped off in the front foyer. Please let the front office know that you have dropped something off, and make sure that the item is clearly labeled with your child's name & teacher/grade.
WHE Safety
Bike Riders:
If you have a student who riders their bike to school, please encourage them to lock them up during school and take them home at the end of each day.
Arrival and Dismissal:
Please remember that schools are a NO cell phone zone! We love our students and need everyone's support ensuring that student safety is number one. Remember, it can wait! We also want to thank everyone for having patience during arrival and dismissal. Our staff work closely with our student safety members to get all of our precious students safely home.
All parents, guardians and visitors who wish to have lunch with their student must bring their ID - as visitors must check in with the front office to obtain a visitor's badge. Please be respectful of the following procedures when visiting WHE for lunch:
Visitor badges must be worn and visible at all times when you are in the building!
Lunch guests are required to sit at the special "guest" tables located in the center of the cafeteria and should only sit with their child.
Lunch guests may not walk around the cafeteria to visit with other students and may not share/purchase food for any other students except their own.
Lunch guests should not visit other areas of the building including classrooms, playgrounds and instructional areas.
In order to avoid crowding, visitors may be asked to wait in the front foyer until it is lunch time and are asked to stay only for their students' lunch time.
All visitors must check out with the front office when lunch is over.
