Happy Friday Wildcats!
I hope you are staying safe and warm. My apologies for not getting a letter out since before Christmas! Between weather and illness, things have been challenging. We are still working on dates to make up the snow days during the week of January 6th and will make sure that you and your districts are aware of the changes.
Our cheerleaders and wrestlers are heading to the Tennessee School for the Blink to compete in the NCASB Cheer and Wrestling Tournament on the 24th and 25th. Go Wildcats!!!
On February 13th, the Kentucky Center for Safe Schools will be on KSB’s campus to conduct a safety assessment. The safety assessment was scheduled last year, but unfortunately, we had to reschedule for this year.
Part of the assessment is a Parent Survey and a Student Survey. Students in fourth grade through high school will complete the surveys next week at school. A link to the Parent Survey is below and we very much want to know your views and any problems that need to be addressed. Thank you for your help! We will also be looking for parents interested and willing to take part in an interview with a member of the safety audit team. The interviews can take place in person, via Teams or phone. If you are willing to be interviewed as a parent, please contact me at: peggy.sinclair-morris@ksb.kyschools.
Have a great weekend and take good care!

Hello folks, and welcome to the 2nd edition of Dorm Happening's in the 2025 calendar year.
We had a shorter week as we came onto campus on Monday afternoon with the celebration of Martin Luther King Day.
Upon arrival we had a meal of breakfast casserole, tater tots and mixed vegetables prepared by our dorm staff. This is always a good time for students and staff to set and eat together and catch up on the weekend and holiday activities.
After our meal Mr. Rhodes and I took the students to the recreation gym where we had an open gym session with bicycles, air hockey and the ever-favorite bouncy air mattress. We even had some of the older students who played billards.
On Tuesday the elementary students went on a mall trip with Mr. Larry and Ms. Hannah and spent time traveling the mall where it was warm and learning about calculations of money and percentages of sales. For example, if you had 50% off an item on sale that was $10.00, then the price would be $5.00 with sales tax. So, fun but also educational and a few math lessons thrown in the mix. The elementary students were also treated with a stop at McDonalds before returning to the dorm.
On Wednesday the middle and high school students went on a dorm trip with Ms. Dollie, Ms. Z, Ms. Connie, Mr. Larry and I and we had an adventure touring the mall and discussing the stores in the mall and giving descriptions of what kind of things each store offered the customers. We also were able to discuss sales and percentages of sales and how many items would be. These students had $15.00 dollars, and they could budget and spend on items and also buy food or snacks. But also remember to return receipts to adult in their group. It was another opportunity to remain in a warm environment and complete some life skills and have fun while learning a few things.
On Thursday evening after one of the favorite meals of the week. Breakfast for supper prepared by Ms. Tamika and the cafeteria staff. We were able to celebrate January birthdays for Malaki and Ms. Dollie. With a snack of pizza, cupcakes and ice cream and then watched a movie and open gym time. We had fun singing Happy Birthday and trying to get our birthday folks to tell how old they are. Also, had a few who wanted to try and guess how old the birthday folks were.
It has been another cold and frosty week here at the Howser dorm on the cold and frigid KSB campus, but we have another week completed and looking forward to trips home and a warmer January weekend.
We wish everyone a safe and warmer weekend.
We will leave you with this thought/quote from Dr. Martin Luther King
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
Until Next Time.
