Learwood Middle School students excelled in the annual Patriot's Pen Essay Contest.
The VFW-sponsored youth essay competition encourages students to use their minds and knowledge of America’s history and their experience of today’s American society to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. Congratulations to Emily Ratzel (1st place), Daniella Girgis (2nd place), and Lila Mueller (3rd place). Daniella also placed 2nd at the VFW District Level. The judges were impressed with their creativity, technical skill, and originality. In addition to receiving a certificate, they also received the coveted Commander's Coin, and a cash prize. Thank you to our Avon/Avon Lake VFW Post 7035 for all they do to encourage students.
The district is pleased to welcome nationally recognized speaker, Jesse Weinberger, who will be presenting on a very important topic for parents, “Internet Safety,” during our second Parent Information Night, sponsored by the North Coast Rotary Club, that will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. March 12 in the Avon Lake High School Performing Arts Center, 175 Avon Belden Road. This event is for parents only and it will not be recorded.
Next week she will be working with our students (grades 5-10) prior to the Parents Information Night presenting Internet safety information. After hearing the presentation, the students will be provided the opportunity to give anonymous feedback via a survey included below. The presentations will take place at ALHS March 6, Learwood Middle School March 4, and Troy Intermediate School March 5.
We look forward to your attendance at this very important event March 12 as it will provide an eye-opening look into what our children are viewing on the Internet.
Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar
