Bath Public School 2019-2020 #alwayslearning
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
We have had a wonderful start to our school year. September brought with it colour house challenges, sport team tournaments, first field trips to the apple orchard, beginnings of clubs like yard pals, running club and Eco team. September also brought new friendships and routines, number talks and practice Safety drills. In all, we have had a full beginning to our first month of school!
Students and staff were excited to support the Terry Fox Run event on Thursday, September 27th. Donned in our colour house colours, big and little buddies walked through the town to show support for Cancer Research. Your donations are appreciated as our overall total for Bath Public School this year is just over $4000 which has grown to a total of over $85,000 in the last 20 years! Thank you!
On Monday, September 30th, students and staff wore orange shirts in recognition of Orange Shirt Day in remembrance of First Nations students at residential schools across Canada. Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis Jack Webstad, a Stswecem'c Xgat'tem First Nation elder in Williams Lake, B.C., and by her first day at residential school in 1973, when she was six. Schools in the Limestone District School Board will recognize this day in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee's Calls to Action to support residential school survivors and their families. Teachers shared this message in age appropriate ways including reading mentor texts written by Indigenous authors that share a message of kindness, acceptance, inclusion and reconciliation. We will promote the message that Every Child Matters, in a small step towards reconciliation.
Our first PRIDE assembly took place on September 30th. It was wonderful to hear about the achievements of our students and celebrate them together as a community of learners. I look forward to celebrating our students each month with PRIDE.
Yours in Education,
Jennifer Osborne
