Butler Institute of American Arts
During the school year, docents from the Butler Museum of American Arts in Youngstown, visit our fourth grade classrooms. The students learn about the museum and the pieces of art that are on display there. Our students then have a couple opportunities to visit the museum to see the pieces of art they have learned about. Below are a few photos of their recent visit.

K-4 News With Ms. Grenci
I’ll be visiting K-4 classrooms during SEL time to help students navigate the many emotions this time of year can bring. Adjusting to new routines can sometimes feel tricky, but they also create chances to grow and find strength. Together, we can help our students embrace their emotions, build confidence, and feel supported during this season. Thank you for being part of their journey!
Continuing throughout December, I will continue accepting requests for students to join in “lunch bunch” groups. For younger students, we will delve into age-appropriate topics such as fairness, friendship, sharing, and practicing respect.
The older students who join for lunch bunch have opportunities to delve into even deeper ideas.
Together, we will be able to maintain a safe environment which fosters socio-emotional learning and reinforces ideas from the classroom!
5-8 News With Mr. Middleton
On December 6th, our McGuffey 8th graders will travel to the Trumbull Career & Technical Center (TCTC). Students will learn first-hand about the many programs offered during high school and for possible career opportunities!
The Holidays can be a time of hustle and bustle, but also a time for learning. One way for your family to add more fun during this time of year is to focus on the true essence of the holidays: sharing, caring, kindness, and giving.
Children learn by doing and can be involved in many charity and community events. You can tell your child about the importance of helping and giving, but until they experience the joy it brings, first hand, it will only be a concept and not an action!
Take the time to help others in need and give the gift of kindness!

McGuffey 3-5 Career Day
On Wednesday, December 11th, we will have speakers in each 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classroom discussing various careers with our students. This will take place from 9:00-10:30. Be sure to ask your child what careers they learned about!
SEL Makes a Difference at McGuffey School!
It is exciting to see staff and PK-8 students actively engaged in SEL (Social Emotional Learning) on a daily basis here at McGuffey! Did you know that an abundance of research finds that SEL programs promote academic success and increase positive behavior?
Social Emotional Learning also helps reduce misconduct, substance abuse, and emotional distress for students. To learn more about SEL, CLICK HERE
