GIVE FROM THE HEART~FOOD DRIVE
In order to give back to the Licking County Food Pantry and YMCA's Healthy Kids Network Weekend Backpack Program, Jackson is conducting a food drive during the month of February. Our theme is, Give From the Heart.
Each week in February, we're highlighting a focus food pantries need most often. Students may bring those items (and others-see below) to donate.
Our goal is 1,000 items by the end of February!

We have 20 minutes of outside recess when the weather/temperatures allow so please be sure your children have coats/hats/gloves/sturdy shoes appropriate for being outside at recess or at the bus stop.
Winter weather often results in school delays or closures. Families will be notified with a phone call from our OneView communications systems. This is a link to our district "Closings & Alerts" page for more detailed information and/or to sign up for district alerts by phone.

Typing.com
Have your student log in to typing.com on their Chromebooks or Mr. Caldwell’s Music Google Classroom for details. We are working on weekly typing lessons which should help your students in all of their classes. I’m also trying to send email to all the students at Jackson on a regular basis to foster practice being good digital citizens!
Physical Education~Mr. Jackson
Currently in P.E., we are working on taking responsibility for our actions. Through a series of games with very specific rules, the students have many opportunities to make mistakes and then take ownership of those mistakes. When a student shows responsibility for any accidental rule infraction, they get to quickly return to the fun. I hope that this unit will lead to kids who can self-officiate games at recess and outside of school.
We are also starting each class with a 5 minute “get moving” session. Through the complications of the pandemic and the cold months setting in, physical activity can sometimes be a challenge to work into our lives. This quick section of each lesson is meant to help students value the importance of physical activity and find ways to get moving even with limited space.
Additional PE Resources
Attendance Expectations
LVA OR HYBID REMOTE
Student attendance in remote learning will be tracked by evidence of participation and completion of assignments provided on remote days. This will include, but is not limited to:
· daily logins to online learning platforms (examples: Edgenuity, Edmentum, ST Math, Reflex Math, Reading Eggs)
· daily interactions with teachers, such as emails, telephone calls, Zoom meetings or other live chats
· assignment completion (examples: Google classroom assignment, lab report, quiz)
HYBRID IN PERSON
Teachers will take attendance as usual on days when children are in person.
ABSENT FROM SCHOOL
On days when your child is absent, please call (740) 928-1915 to leave a message stating the child's name, teacher, grade, and reason for absence before 8:00 a.m. If you can't call and leave a message you need to send a note with this information when your child returns to school.
Without either a call or a note, the absence will be recorded as unexcused.
If you child has a dental or medical appointment, please request a "seen by the doctor/return to school" excuse provided by most medical offices. Students and teachers will work together to make up missed assignments.
Incomplete or missing assignments result in an absence of minutes/hours for student attendance, however, students may be assigned to working lunchtime to complete the work since the practice and learning is key. Completed late assignments will not recover absence time but will count for grades.
If your child is sick or otherwise unable to complete assignments on remote learning days, parents/guardians should call the school office at (740) 928-1915 and report the absence in the same manner described above.
REMOTE ASSIGNMENT COMPLETION
When you log into ProgressBook to view grades, you can also locate your child's remote work assignments in a class labeled, Work and Social Skills.
Just click on "Grades" at the left. Then click Work and Social Skills class. Each remote day assignment is listed there along with a number of completion points listed under "Marks" on the right. (ex. 4.5/6)
Some teachers may also add a comment explaining any incomplete work. But if you have additional questions, please contact him/her or call the school office and someone will assist.
Not using ProgressBook yet?
Just click the link below to read the information Parent Access. https://www.lakewoodlocal.k12.oh.us/Parents.aspx
You'll need a registration key to create a new account or if you have trouble remembering your login. Please call the office or contact Stephanie Scott at sscott@laca.org and she'll be happy to assist.
Once you log in, simply click on "Schedule" under Student Information on the left side of the page. You will then be able to see the assigned classes on the left and the teacher's name on the right. This will work whether you child is attending in person/hybrid or in our virtual academy.
Throughout the school year, you will be able to view current grades and assignments anytime!
VISITORS TO JACKSON A & B
