Principal's Note
Dear Caregivers and Community Members,
We cordially invite you to join us for a special community screening of the impactful documentary, "The Right to Read." This event is not just a viewing but a call to action, urging us to unite as partners—schools and community—to bolster literacy outcomes for every child.
Film Summary:
“When a child cannot read, their chances of facing tough challenges—like going to jail, being homeless, or not finding a job—increase. That’s why Kareem Weaver, an activist with the NAACP in Oakland, California, believes that making sure kids can read is one of the most important civil rights issues today. He argues that if we can’t read the ballot, even winning the right to vote doesn’t help us much. Noticing that the reading scores in his community are far from satisfactory, Kareem has taken action by starting a petition to demand better reading instruction from the Oakland Unified School District.”.

❗ 2nd Active Threat Drill ❗
Ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is of paramount concern at Meadow View Elementary. We conduct various drills throughout the year, including active threat drills, to practice our responses to emergencies and equip our students with the skills to handle potentially dangerous situations anywhere.
This message is to inform you that our second active threat drill is scheduled for the morning of March 15th. The administration, Student Services, and teachers are preparing our students for the drill and are available to address any questions or provide support to your child if needed. To assist with this, teachers are utilizing resources such as the District Active Threat Teaching Slides for Kids.
Please check the weather and temperature as March 15th approaches. As part of our realistic scenarios, some students will be evacuating while others will be barricading. Since students will not have access to their cubbies during the drill, we kindly request that they come dressed in layers and warm clothing if the weather is chilly.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Sun Prairie Experience
We are proud to launch the Sun Prairie Experience video. Take a look - many of our Otters are featured. We are incredibly proud of our district and our teachers, but we are especially proud of our community, which values education immensely. Most of all, we are extremely proud of all our students. Enjoy the video!

Birthday Treat Guidelines
We wanted to provide some guidelines regarding birthday treats and appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the well-being and inclusivity of all students. Please take a moment to review the following reminders:
Accessibility and Allergies: When bringing in birthday treats, please ensure that the food labels are easily accessible to Kelsey and Madhu, our staff members at the front desk, who are responsible for allergy awareness. This allows them to check for any potential allergens that may affect students in the class.
Individually Packed Items: We kindly request that you consider providing individually packed items for birthday treats. This helps with portion control and ensures convenience for distribution. Individually packaged treats also minimize the risk of cross-contamination and promote cleanliness.
Non-Food Treats: We encourage you to explore the option of non-food treats for birthdays. Non-food items can be equally enjoyable and are a great way to celebrate while accommodating various dietary preferences and restrictions. Examples include small toys, stickers, pencils, or bookmarks.
No Class-Wide Food Items: To maintain a balanced and inclusive approach, we kindly ask that you refrain from providing class-wide food items such as pizzas or hot dishes. This helps prevent any potential disruptions to the regular meal routine and ensures that dietary restrictions are respected.
No Balloons: While we understand that balloons are often associated with celebrations, we kindly request that you refrain from bringing balloons to school. This is to maintain a safe and distraction-free environment for all students.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in following these guidelines. By working together, we can create inclusive celebrations that ensure the well-being of every student. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
