Results of Kenwood School Election ✅
On Monday, Nov. 4, students in grades 1-5 participated in the Students Voting Mock Election, sponsored by the Minnesota Secretary of State. Kenwood was one of more than 500 schools that participated in the mock election this year. Parent volunteers Marstal and Emily helped classroom teachers run polling stations in their classrooms. 271 students voted for president at Kenwood. 228 voted for Harris/Walz and 43 voted for Trump/Vance. We hope all students learned about the importance and power of exercising their right to vote!
Playground Installation Update 🏀
Kenwood's new playground will be installed the week of Nov. 18. Equipment and machinery will be delivered to our site on Nov. 13, and demolition will begin on or around the 18th. Recess will take place in Kenwood Park for the duration of the installation, which will take 2-4 weeks. Staff and parent volunteers will supervise students to and from the park to ensure a safe crossing across Franklin Ave. Thank you in advance for signing up to volunteer at recess once or twice a week!
Update from the Health Office
The health office would like to clarify some questions regarding head lice and how this is handled at school. Cases of head lice happen every year in every school. Minneapolis Public Schools follows the recommendations of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH, /Hennepin County Epidemiologists, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) regarding how to handle head lice in schools. You can read more about this on the right side of the Health Services page on the MPS website, under Head Lice Information. If you have any questions or need to report a case of head lice, please contact the school health office or school nurse at 612-668-2766. Thank you!
¡Gracias!

ALC Starts Tuesday, Nov. 12!
We are so excited to have about 85 students participating in after school classes for this fall/winter session! Your student should have brought home a letter in the past week to confirm their enrollment. In a few situations, classes were full, and students were not able to be enrolled in their preferred class. Those students will have enrollment priority in the 2nd session. We would love to have a few more 3rd-5th graders sign up for Earth Science that meets on Thursdays!
Here is some important information for this session:
- This session of after-school classes runs from Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024 through Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025. Your student is expected to regularly attend throughout the session.
- Note: There will be no after school classes on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
- If there is a change in your student’s regular transportation from after-school, please notify the office at 612-668-2760 no later than 4:30 p.m. on the day of the change. Bus transportation changes must be scheduled one week prior to being able to ride.
- If you are picking your student up from after-school, please be prompt. You can meet your student(s) in the atrium- inside Door 1- at 5:30 p.m. Please do not park in front of the building on Penn- leave space for buses.
- If your student is riding the bus, they will have a modified bus tag with their after school drop off time and location.
- Important: Your student’s drop off stop for after school may be different from their regular end of day location. Please carefully review the bus stop information.
- The decision to close after-school classes due to weather is made at the district level. Communication about weather-related changes will come from MPS.

Interested in being an Art Adventure Picture People Volunteer?
While we are still months away from the start of in-classroom programming with Art Adventure from the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA), there are a number of upcoming opportunities for adult volunteers to attend an in person training at MIA in preparation.
If you are unfamiliar with Art Adventure, it is an opportunity for students to experience art from MIA's collection of art across various cultures and periods, up close and personally through reproductions, technology, and props, encouraging student creativity, critical thinking and global awareness.
Art Adventure relies on adult volunteers to introduce classroom students to a variety of preselected artworks from MIA. No art expertise is needed but past volunteers have found the in person training sessions available at MIA very beneficial in preparation.
If you would like to learn more about Art Adventure and the upcoming in person sessions, please email Marstal Aamodt at marstal.aamodt@gmail.com.
