Updates, Reminders, And Guidance From WWCS Human Resources
Job Well Done!
May 2024
On behalf of the WWCS Human Resources Department, I applaud district personnel on a job well done on completing a successful school year! As you reflect on the goals you have accomplished, the challenges you have overcome, and the lessons learned over the year, please know we have grown as an organization due to your hard work. For those who will begin your summer break shortly, rest, have fun, and be safe while away from work. For those who work year-round, let's continue to find ways to get after it!
As a department, we are committed to recognizing high-performing personnel, celebrating significant staff accomplishments, and promoting impactful district initiatives. It was a joy to discover many talented staff members this year and highlight the exceptional work done throughout WWCS. In the fall, our HR department will honor top-performing personnel from this school year; be on the lookout for more details on this special event.
Thank you,
Dr. Alex Ofili

HR Focus - Welcome Summer
For a lot of our staff, summer means no school and a well deserved break! You have persevered, and we appreciate all your hard work throughout the school year. It's also important to acknowledge and appreciate those who continue to keep our operations running smoothly. While many employees are enjoying summer break, there are dedicated team members who ensure our District continues to thrive and is ready for your return. Let me take a moment to thank all those who make that happen.
Skilled Trades, Technology, and Custodial maintain and work to make improvements to our essential services. Secretaries continue to support staff, students, and parents by providing top notch support and service. Bus Drivers and Attendants safely transport our students to their summer programs. Food service workers who provide healthy nutrition for our students. Paraprofessionals, Teachers, and Ancillary Staff who continue the work with students in summer school, camps, and special education programs. Building and District administrators who wrap up the current school year and begin the process of preparing for next year. Music program staff and athletic coaches who work with our students to improve their skills.
These teams keep everything running without a hitch. Your dedication does not go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate your hard work and commitment. Whether you are off for the summer or are taking a few days of vacation, we wish you a fantastic summer. Stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy the sunshine!

HR Focus - Considering Retiring?
With the school year coming to a close many staff are looking into retirement. While making this shift to the next phase of your life there are many things to consider. The District is not able to offer retirement advice or guidance with the retirement process. We strongly encourage all staff seeking answers on their years of service, retirement eligibility and retirement dates to contact the Office of Retirement Services (ORS) directly. They are extremely helpful and can guide you step by step through this process. If you are looking to contact ORS please call (517) 284-4400.
Please join us in celebrating all our retirees this school year! Their commitment and contribution to our students and community has made Wayne-Westland a great place to be.

HR Focus - May is Mental Health Month
May is Mental Health Month, and while promoting mental health is important all year, this special month of recognition raises awareness about mental illness, its prevalence in today's society, and its impacts on people of all ages and backgrounds. The Human Resources department took the opportunity to promote mental health as a part of our overall wellness and to reduce the stigma associated with mental health concerns by wearing green.

Teachers, counselors, administrators, and everyone in between dedicate themselves to fostering a safe and nurturing environment where students can learn and thrive. Their tireless efforts inspire curiosity, build character, and shape the future of our communities.
Beyond academics, school staff play a crucial role in our children's emotional well-being. They often serve as confidantes, mentors, and advocates, offering support and guidance through challenging times. The pressure to meet student needs while managing demanding schedules can take its toll. Let's remember to extend our gratitude to all school staff for their unwavering dedication and commitment to our children's success.
