The Peak - June 2024
Monthly news from the Wachusett Regional School District

June 2024
This month's Peak is a somewhat abbreviated edition as summer break has begun
Inaugural Season for Unified Track
This year, for the first time, WRHS students participated a Unified Track program. Unified sports give students with and without intellectual disabilities the opportunity to train and compete together on one team. The season was a great success and was enjoyed immensely by the athletes and their families. Way to go, Mountaineers!
ECC Superheroes Parade
On Friday, June 7th, the Early Childhood Center held its annual parade for families. This year's theme was "Superheroes" with students and staff marching in costumes that befit their rather super and heroic qualities. This wonderful and celebratory event concluded with certificates, songs and pictures.
Year-End Celebrations at Thomas Prince
We ended the school year at TPS with many celebrations. One of our favorites though was our PBIS culminating event. All year, students in grades K-8 accumulated Tommy Tickets for exhibiting positive behaviors (being safe, being responsible, and ready to learn). At the end of field day, many of them elected to use these Tommy Tickets to enter a raffle and join staff members in a "Mario Kart" tricycle race! Teams of students and staff raced around the playground in our "Mario Karts" in a whole school celebration of positive behaviors and community building. It can be tricky to find things that this wide range of students can be engaged in and have fun doing, but this fits the bill. Congratulations to Mrs. Andre and her team who took home the win in our first race, in what we hope becomes an annual tradition!

Central Tree Unified Field Trip
On Wednesday, June 5th, a group of students from Central Tree Middle School celebrated the end of the year with a unified trip focused on interpersonal relations and leisure skills. Students from Room 134 joined with mentor peers from grades 6, 7 & 8. Students worked together to complete a team building bucket challenge, free played on the big green field, and even tried out some pickleball.
Kaleidoscope - WRHS Visual Arts
We'll leave you with this fantastic video from the WRHS Visual Arts exhibition and award celebration, which was held in May.
Enjoy the summer.
