Matanzas High School Weekly Update
January 10, 2025
School-wide Testing Tuesday
On Tuesday, January 14th, 2025, all 9th and 10th grade students will be taking the ELA FAST Assessment (PM2). This is the mid-year progress assessment that will give our teachers valuable feedback about your students' learning and progress. Please ensure that your child charges their device the night before and that they arrive to school on time that day. Students should check Schoology for their testing locations.

New Hallway/Walkway Patterns on Campus
As our construction starts to wrap up, we will be able to once again open up the bus loop sidewalk for students to travel between the main building and buildings 9 and 10. With this, we are implementing new one-way hallways in buildings 9 and 10 to alleviate overcrowding and ensure all students will be able to get to and from class on time. These new walking paths will begin on Monday, January 13th. Students were informed of the new walking patterns on campus in class assemblies the week of January 7th-10th.
Car Rider Traffic Pattern Reminders
Car Rider Line Procedures
All car rider traffic should enter campus through the main gate, on Pirate Nation Way. Please follow posted signs and loop through the front parking lot and drop off/pick up students on the sidewalk directly in front of the school building.
Students should not be dropped off outside of the school gates. No U-Turns are allowed on Pirate Nation Way or on campus.
To make the line move as quickly and safely as possible, please follow the following tips:
- Continue to pull up behind the car in front of you
- When you get to the sidewalk in front of the school, pull all the way up toward the flagpole until the cars in front of you stop before loading or unloading students
- Traffic is light before 7:45AM and after 3:00PM, these are recommended times to have the shortest wait in the car line
- At peak times our car rider line takes 5-7 minutes from the time you turn onto Pirate Nation Way until you have picked up or dropped off your child - please be patient!
School Starts at 8:10AM
Students should be in their 1st period class, ready to learn at 8:10AM. To accomplish this, all students should be dropped off by 8:00AM at the latest to give them time to get to class on time.
Reminder - Forest Grove - NOT a Pickup/Dropoff Area
Our neighbors have asked us to remind all parents that Forest Grove is not a designated pick up or drop off area. This area is for access of walkers and bike riders from the neighborhoods around Matanzas. All car riders should be picked up and dropped off on the sidewalk directly in front of the school, following our established traffic pattern.
Prom - Shuttle Bus to Hard Rock Interest Survey
Our 2025 Prom is coming up in April and will once again be at the Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach. MHS is considering organizing a charter bus to transport students from MHS to the Hard Rock for Prom and back at the end of the evening. We would aim for the cost to individual students to be no more than $20.
We would like to gauge the level of interest in this opportunity before reserving a bus - if your child will be attending prom and you would potentially be interested in them taking advantage of this, please respond to the survey below!
If your child is planning to attend prom, please respond below:
Would you consider the prom shuttle for your child?
