AP Mock Schedule
Below you will find the AP Mock Schedule for the Week of March 12th through March 15th 2018.
OSS Alumni Featured on "redefinED" !
OSS Alumni, Class of 2017, Colin Chaney was featured in an article on the "redefinED" website this past Tuesday March 6th 2018. Colin who is now a freshmen at MIT credits Orlando Science Schools as a key factor on being accepted into MIT!
"He suspects he wouldn’t have discovered his passion for engineering. He’s fairly certain he wouldn’t have learned to work as a member of a team and get comfortable with kids his age. And he’s positive he wouldn’t have landed at one of America’s most prestigious universities, 1,300 miles from home"
"His transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed by OSS founder Akin, who considers Colin the embodiment of the school’s philosophy: If students are offered the tools to succeed when they’re young, success will become second nature to them.
“We make sure that each student is given the opportunity to thrive,” said Akin, who prior to coming to OSS worked with the National Science Foundation and participated in various U.S. Department of Energy supported projects. “Our students are given access to all the knowledge that is out there.”

Orlando Science Places at "Florida High School Model United Nations 39 Conference"
We are pleased to announce that Orlando Science High School had three of our Model UN Team Members compete at the distinguished “Florida High School Model United Nations 39 Conference (FHSMUN)” over the course of four days.
Our team discussed and resolved, real international problems in the same forum the actual United Nations follows. They debated, discussed, researched and authored resolution papers. There were over 300 students in attendance, from schools as far as New Jersey and out of 300 plus delegates there were only 40 awards, in total.
OSS did fantastic. We brought home three of the 40 prestigious awards. Alexis D. and Avari M. both received one of only two awards in their committees, which consisted of over 30 students each. Alexis D. and Richard Scott O. received the prestigious award “Most Distinguished Delegation” for representing Belgium in a very professional, diplomatic manner. Our days started very early and didn’t conclude until after 10:00PM.
We are so proud of all three of these students for their hard work.
We also would like to recognize Mrs. Dorman, Mrs. Mallonee and Mrs. Russeth for their support over the four day event. From commuting each day to not only attending advisor meetings but meeting with other advisors from various school to gather insight and ideas. With the outstanding success of this event and new idea and insight gathered we are excited to be moving forward with our Model UN Team! Congratulations to all on a job well done!

February Teacher of the Month: Mrs. Aksu
Congratulations to Mrs. Aksu for being chosen as our February "Teacher of the Month". Mrs. Aksu was nominated by her fellow colleagues for going above and beyond both in and out of the classroom. She makes everyone feel welcome and is always willing to help anyone in need. Congratulations again Mrs. Aksu and thank you for all that you do.
Club of the Week: Neuroscience
The Neuroscience Club aims to motivate students learn about brain and its functions and inspire them to pursue careers in biomedical research. The club also prepares students for the Brain Bee Competition. There are three rounds of competition. First, the students sit through a written exam of 30 questions. Then, they examine human-brain samples and various parts of the human anatomy for identification. The scores are then tallied with the top ten students advancing to the final round of questions given by a panel of judges. Our students received 3rd place in the Central Florida Brain Bee Competition on Feb 24. For more information about the club, please contact with Ms.Balci.

Orlando Science Middle High Home Visits
Dear OSS Parents and Guardians ,
We like to find ways to communicate with parents to support our mutual involvement in your child’s education. As part of OSS tradition, we are organizing home visits as a way to reach out to our families and get to know them better. We would like to set up a time for a few of your students teachers to have a brief 20-30 minute home visit. Home visits are an effective way to establish positive contact and communication with families. They are not a replacement for parent-teacher conferences, but are a process through which teachers demonstrate their support for students’ families by visiting the home environment where the family feels comfortable. Home visits originate from a sincere desire to assist and work with families. We will be glad to visit you and your child at a convenient time. If you would like to host a home visit, please select one of the days below. We will be organizing quarterly home visits. If you are not available during first quarter, you always can choose a day later on in the school year. We look forward to visiting you!
Sincerely, Orlando Science Schools Teachers and Staff
