Author Patrick Ness Visited North!
North Elementary was delighted to host New York Times bestselling author Patrick Ness on Monday, September 23rd. Mr. Ness talked with students about his career as an author and discussed his new book, Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody.
There will be a limited supply of signed books available for purchase through September 30th.
Animals on School Property
In order to assure student health and safety, animals are not allowed on school property at any time, except in the case of a service animal accompanying a student or other individual with a documented disability. This rule may be temporarily waived by the building principal in the case of an educational opportunity for students, provided that: (a) the animal is appropriately housed, humanely cared for, and properly handled, and (b) students will not be exposed to a dangerous animal or an unhealthy environment. As an additional reference, the McHenry County Department of Health has an Animal Control Ordinance, Article XVII, Section 5.13.
Wee Deliver
The North Wee Deliver Post Office is about to open for the 2024-2025 school year! For those parents not familiar, the Wee Deliver program is a post office set up for the students and run by 3rd & 4th graders at North Elementary. All students and staff use the post office to send notes, letters or pictures to friends or teachers/staff throughout the school year. They can use classroom free time or bring in letters they write at home. Parents are also encouraged to send in cards/letters to be delivered to their child’s classroom as well!
If your student is interested in becoming a post office employee, the jobs specific to grade level are as follows:
3rd Graders - Deliver Mail weekly
4th Graders - Sort Mail Weekly
We make assignments on a weekly rotating basis and employees will perform their duties for that week during their lunch recess. Depending on the amount of students per grade level, they may get the chance to work more than once during the year.
Please check with your child about a Wee Deliver application and have them turn it in by Friday, September 27th.
Reminders!

As cooler weather approaches, we want to remind parents to please label your child’s sweatshirts, jackets, and other belongings. This helps ensure that misplaced items can be returned to their owners quickly. Also, don’t forget to check the lost and found regularly for any missing items. Thank you for helping us keep our lost and found as empty as possible!
