The Tiger Times
December 2024
🍎 From the Principal 🚌
Hello Mohawk Families!
Happy Holidays to you and your families! We are so fortunate to be in a community that blends many traditions and cultures each day. During the month of December, families celebrate different holidays. It is a great opportunity for your child to share yours with others in the classroom. It is also a time for teaching our students about how to be kind, show compassion and be generous to others. Too often, we go about our daily lives forgetting about how truly fortunate we are.
Throughout the year, we use the Positivity Project as our character education program. It is based off of positive psychology research, the study of what makes life worth living. There are 24 character traits we all possess that define who we are. Each week we focus on one of those character traits.

During the week of December 9th, we will talk about the "Other People Matter Mindset: Supporting Others When They Struggle". As a school, we offer the chance for our needy families to receive assistance for the holidays. During November, we collected over 3,575 items for the Clinton Township Kiwanis club! Currently, we are collecting gift cards for our "Giving Tree" program. This will help our less fortunate families shop for their children for Christmas. If you are able, please consider donating a gift card. More information can be found below.
I hope you have a wonderful end to 2024!
Best wishes for the holidays,
Ms. Andrea Verellen

Student Council Canned Food Drive 🥣
Thank you to everyone who helped make our canned food drive a success! This year we surpassed our goal of 2,000 cans by donating 3, 575 items to the Kiwanis Club! This will help feed needy families in the Macomb County area.
Iroquois’ NJHS helped our Student Council Advisor, Caitlin Kelly, and our Media Specialist, Eric Owens, pack up the items and our student council assisted the Kiwanis representatives load up their vehicles.
Great job Mohawk!

- Lower drop-out rates and better attendance

Community Health Survey
Chippewa Valley Schools utilizes the Michigan Model for Health as a guide and provides Health lessons in 5th grade, 7th grade, and in a Health course in high school that is required for graduation by the State of Michigan. Every 5 years the district checks in with the community around these areas of learning. Your feedback helps us to ensure that we are staying on track with the needs of the community. Please complete this survey by the end of the day on December 13, 2024. On Monday, December 16 ten lucky winners will be chosen to win a $10 Starbucks OR Target gift card (your choice) for your feedback.
