January Newsletter
Dear Parents,
What an exciting time of year this is at the Crocker Elementary! This is when we see many students take giant leaps in their learning. Students who have struggled with being “tuned into” learning are starting to take off. Students who struggled with reading fluently are sounding like pros. Students who have fought with their addition and subtraction facts are finding that things are starting to click. This is a true testament to all the work done at school and at home since the start of the school year. So, let’s keep the positive growth going with the coordinated efforts between home and school.
Tomorrow, 2nd quarter ends, and grades will be in the system to access on your Parent Infinite Portal. If you can not access your child's grades, please call the elementary office. Reminder that tomorrow, Friday, December 20 dismissal is at 1:10, and that starts our Holiday Break! We will be out for the holiday break until January 6, 2025.
Remember, you can/should read with your child each night.
Students need to read with you for
(1) a fluent model of what reading sounds like,
(2) seeing that you value the practice needed to grow as a reader,
(3) continued practice of strategies and skills learned at school,
(4) quality time for you and your child.
Thank you for your continued support at home!

Winter Update
Hello Crocker Lions, As we embrace the winter season , here are some important updates and reminders to keep everyone informed: Weather Closures: Stay tuned to https://www.crockerschools.org/ or follow us here for announcements about weather-related delays or closures. Winter Gear: Please ensure students are dressed warmly with coats, gloves, hats, and boots as outdoor activities will continue, weather permitting. #lionsleadtheway #winterishere #readyforsummer
Habit 5
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood is the habit of listening to other people’s ideas and feelings. It’s trying to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. It’s about being confident in voicing your ideas. It’s about looking people in the eyes when speaking. Habit 5 is a timeless principle we all strive to teach our kids; it teaches them to be confident when speaking to others while also teaching them the importance of listening to others when they are speaking.
Habit 5 is about communication. The best way to teach someone how to communicate is by practicing it with them.

Sight Word Challenge
Sight Word Challenge officially began this week! Students will be able to be quizzed on their sight words Tuesday - Thursday mornings from 7:00-7:30 in the high school gym! Students will be able to start on the same list that they left off on last year! This is a challenge for students K-5th grade to help promote reading fluency and reading comprehension! The attached lists will be available outside of Miss Josie Sloan’s room for students to take home and study if they would like.
Student of the Month Sign and Information
We appreciate the parents who came to our end of the month assembly, where your student was recognized as the November Student of the Month. This year, the Crocker Bank is sponsoring the Student of the Month signs. Each student that is recognized as the student of the month will bring a yard sign home to display for that month. We ask that the signs be returned the week prior to the following month's assembly so that new recognized students can put them up in their yards for that month. The next assembly is scheduled for January 31. Thank you.
